You know you're a Prince fan...

when he has you standing up and waiting for him for 8 HOURS and you and your friends are cussing him to hell and back, but as soon as he steps on the stage all is forgiven and you thank God for Prince's existence.

---

This is true! In the summer of '95 Prince missed his plane in L.A. and we waited in the soundstage at Paisley Park from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. When he finally took the stage. I think he said, "Sorry, I'm late" or it could have been the first cord of his guitar that made my feet stop hurting (it's not good to stand on concrete for a long time). He performed for two hours. It was a beautiful night.

When a Prince song comes on the radio or in a store, your heart starts pounding, you drop what you're doing and sing along in absolute momentary bliss - even though it's a song you're so fucking sick of, you never play it anymore.

I KNOW, what's UP with that? Raspberry Beret or 1999 or some other uberhit that I've come to hate will come on in a public place and all of a fucking sudden you'd think it was my favorite song in the universe from my reaction!

I knooooow. I remember going to see Prince with my sisters. He was at Club Black in New York and it was freezing, although it was March. I was wearing pumps and suit pants and a blazer, no coat. I was freezing and my hands were numb and my ears hurt. The people in line were going to get coffee and cocoa, but I didn't dare move. I even had tears and even said, "I am going home!"

But once I got inside, I forgot about how bad my feet and hands hurt and just started dancing!

You know the difference between "Un2" and "In2"

U write with 4's and Eyes and U's and B's

You bought your mother New Power Soul (I really did!)

Musicology's success secretly makes you a little angry because it wasn't The Rainbow Children.

You defend the name change eloquently & ridiculously.

You think Wendy & Lisa are an important force in music.

You're sick of seeing him sing Purple Rain in concert.

This is sort of a rehash, but you say things like:
"I'm gonna have one of those sandwiches" at parties and laugh to yourself.

I love the one above "You roll their eyes when a casual fan says their favorite Prince album is Purple Rain."

*You've actually gotten into physical altercations because people were
"talking sh%*...." about your boy Prince

*Can't sleep unless you're listening to N.E.W.S.

*Start using a Digitech Whammy Pedal (guitarists, holla...)

*Get a pompadour going even though you're white

*Start using St. Ives Lilac/Lavender Lotion just for that purple smell and soft skin.....

*Tell kids at the school you work at that they should not be impressed by Lil John and the Eastside boys because it's the new minstrel show, instead they should check out The Rainbow Children

*Putting "God" on repeat in the CD player when you're getting it on with your lady

*Bringing your Telecaster into the bathroom with you when you're taking a bath
even though the steam warps the wood

... if your adult child tells you that Prince was his nightmare eek

... if it was a must for you to play Purple Rain at New Year's Eve midnight razz

it started in the early 80s, still I don't know if it's a disease rainbow
