Q:Oh come on! I've seen that old pic. My question: what's it like kissing Prince, Gayle?!
-Pixie Girl

A:Good question! That's me in those pix, and I don't remember it ever happening....I'm sure if someone were to play me a video tape of my life from age 18 til now, there would probably be a lot of things I would stutter in disbelief about.....

My thoughts: hmm I think this interview should have come with a lie detector test. I can't believe that Gayle wouldn't remember kissing Prince. She seemed to purposely be very evasive on most of the questions that she was asked, or she signed a gag order with Prince after she left the band not to reveal too much about working with him. neutral

I'm sorry but to me she came across as a complete non-source of any valuable contribution to the discussion of the very times and experiences that a founding band member in the career of such an illustrious musical icon should absolutely have! Was she completely spaced out back then or what? And I whole-heartedly agree that she would have definitely remembered kissing Prince. That, and the notion that she lived here in America through the eighties when the whole world knew about Prince, his band, his music ect...and somehow she managed to pay no heed, buy no records, see no concerts and miss the entire musical and cultural phenomena that Prince was seems staggeringly dis-ingenuous. I'm just being honest. I have to wonder if this whole nonchalant "what did I miss" routine was used as a tired justification for what she later realized was a colossal mistake. Hmmmm confuse. Either way, it was probably the least satisfying bandmember interview that I can recall.

Galye diffidently wasn’t telling the truth. She claims she doesn’t know anything about him never listen 2 his music and don’t know what he’s been up 2. I find it very hard 2 believe she never knew about the name change, WB dispute, losing his parents and son, 2 marriages, etc. She contradicts her self a few times regarding his music. She acts as if she’s mad at him for some reason. But later she said if he contacted her 2 play with him she would lol…. Gayle went around the questions, never really giving honest answers. eek

Ummm, I don't understand what you are apologizing for, since you seem to agree with my original post that Gayle didn't really say a whole heck of a lot about her time working with Prince. You seem to think that you're disagreeing with me on what I said, but you and I seem to have the same thoughts on this interview. The reason why I made the lie detector test comment was because Gayle clearly was lying on her answers regarding working with Prince.

She gave me an honest and in-depth answer. I was happy and appreciative that she took the time. lol

We don't know these people or what kind of lives they lead. She may have answered all her questions, very cautiously.

shrug Whatever floats your boat. To me, there was nothing new revealed that I didn't already know. But you could be right in that she answered her questions cautiously (too cautiously for my liking). lol

nod I agree. Gayle's feigned wide-eyed innocence and pretending not to know anything about Prince is not fooling too many people, I'm afraid. We're not that dumb. lol

When kids give weird answers because they're "horsing around", it's cute, but when adults do it, it's just plain annoying. I think I speak for many when I say that I would like to hear some intelligent answers from Gayle in regards to her working with Prince, instead of this silly "I don't know" games that she wants to play. rolleyes

I hereby grant the Gayle Chapman interview the Doody Award because it was dumb and uninformative. doody doody

Well, that could be true about the confidentiality contract; I even made a reference to it in my first post above by calling it a "gag order". lol But, if this is the case, then why would Dez Dickerson write a book entitled "My Time With Prince" (or whatever it was called). I haven't read the book myself, but from what I've heard, it sounds like Dez reveals alot of about his experiences working with Prince. Seems to me that if Dez DID indeed sign a confidentiality contract, he wouldn't be writing such a book, since he was with Prince around the same time that Gayle was.

Yeah.....but she's been out of the band for years now. She can't still be binding to that.

Ever heard of a guy called Prince? Come on Psychodelicide, seems your brain has been washed too many times for its own good.

I think her quitting the band was probably one of the greatest things that ever happened to Prince. Lisa was good, and with Wendys influence and those girls created a comfort level for him to explore.

My brain is just fine, perhaps YOUR brain has been washed too many times. rolleyes

As an added sidenote, Prince may give weird answers to his interview questions, but anybody who has been a fan of his for any length of time expects him to answer in a cryptic manner. I was hoping that a person who had worked with Prince would answer the questions in a clearer manner.

Did you ever think that maybe she's just like Prince. Maybe once she leaves a group of people she goes on with her life and never looks back. Just like Prince maybe she's been in a world of her own and has forgotten all about that stuff. I remember the question where someone asked her did she keep in touch with Prince and she said I don't think Prince is the type that wants to be kept in touch with. Maybe she isn't either.

Now all the the stuff you mentioned above she probably has heard about it, but it went in one ear and out the other because she has her own life. Maybe she isn't concerned with his. After she wasn't with him as long as Lisa was and she left him 24 years ago.

Well remember she left the band because her religious beliefs didn't coincide with Prince's lyrics and onstage behavior. Maybe she wants to distance herself from that whole time.

I do however really appreciate Dez's forthrightness. He seems more comfortable with who he was before he became born again and doesn't seem to need to downplay anything.
