Just as I predicted nana There were a lot of folks out there saying this was not the right choice for the next single when it was announced. From the minute I heard this track I knew it would connect with black folks over 30. "Call My Name" is for the old school Prince fans out there.

"Black folks over 30"? Dear God! Prince has much more of a following than that.

Prince doesnt need to appeal to the Black folks over 30. He got that market pretty well figured out. He needs mainstream appeal for a single to make a difference in album sales.

A 17-year-old girl I know loves "Call My Name" and says Prince is a cutie. Also, my 9-year-old niece says Prince looks good in boots.

Whatever. If you can't sell to your base then you are in trouble. Ask Earth, Wind & Fire about "Heritage" if you need to know about that.

I'm sorry, but I do not beleive that "black folks over 30" constitute Prince's base. The magic of Prince when his "base" was established in the early eighties came from his amazing cross-over appeal. From my personal experience, at the many shows I've attended in Seattle and Minneapolis, there has never been an overwhelming majority of people of a particular race, or age, or gender for that matter.

Not in the "urban" market. "Urban" is a euphemism for Black. Blackfolk LOVE this song. PARTICULARLY the 30+ crowd. Even people who aren't prince fans love THIS song....

sorry for the formatting, I don't have the time, lol. Just wanted to offer up some data for the discussion. Urban Adult Contemporary. hmmm... isn't this basically the Soul Chart for folks who aren't in the club grindin to "YEAH!"? essentially, if i dare say... mostly black folks (and folks who like black music) over 30? Just defining what the chart really is doesn't mean ignoring Prince's multiculti appeal. geez... if we were talkin about the pop charts it'd be something different, but give me a break... lol What base do Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Alicia Keys, The O'Jays, Teena Marie, Jill Scott, Patti LaBelle...(point made yet? lol) all have in common?

hmm...

fro
lol
