BUFFALO SHOW PREVIEW AT ARTVOICE.COM

Prince Presides Over Shea’s

{{{Shea’s Performing Arts Center will be home to royalty this Thursday as Prince, (once again, it’s just “Prince”) will be holding court for an extremely rare Western New York performance.}}}

He will largely be featuring songs from his latest album, The Rainbow Children, again straddling realms of the spiritual and the profane in typically blunt Prince fashion. Rainbow Children is his most complete and personal album in years, infusing powerful elements of jazz, funk, and R&B with his own innovative musical technique.

Its one drawback may be the somewhat grating, slowed-voice track Prince uses to spread his spiritual message across the album’s first few songs. In this effort he comes off, unfortunately, like a preacher on nitrous oxide, trying to piece together Genesis while he waits for a root canal. However, there are so many redeemable elements later on in Rainbow Children that we can easily forgive the man for his indulgences.

For this tour, Prince has promised to revisit many of his classic songs not heard at live performances in years. Audiences can expect a sophisticated show—there will be no pyrotechnics, back-up dancers or bungee cords for distraction. Appearing as special guests will be two disparate flavors on saxophone: legend Maceo Parker and pop culture phenom Candy Dulfer.

Tickets run from $52.50 to $102.50 and are available from Saturday, February 23. Contact Ticketmaster or the Shea’s box office at 847-0850.
This is as good as it gets, people. Prince is a true music icon: aloof, strange, arrogant and talented, and well worth witnessing in person.

"there will be no pyrotechnics, back-up dancers or bungee cords for distraction. " lol no distractions to the voice of the "preacher on nitrous oxide, trying to piece together Genesis while he waits for a root canal"

now that is also some piece of subtle sarcasm.
You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Will people ever stop tripping about the deep voice on TRC?
I believe everybody has their things that bother them, etc., etc., but that voice didn't bother me on the album and it didn't bother me in the Buffalo show, either.
It serves/served a purpose. He used the sped up voice on other songs/albums but didn't get nearly as much flak.
"Shut up, already! Da...!''
smile Just jokin'.
U get my point, right?
