Well man, I tell ya what. If I was worried about money.. (which I have been MANY times) enough to want my money BACK.. then I wouldn't have gone in the first place.
If you are a big fan, you should know its NEVER promised that he will show up. And like someone said before, there are a-holes everywhere.. and you take chances. But- I dont think that Prince can control EVERY move his crew makes. You lost 40 dollars.. but you got a good show and now you know of a bar that you never want to go back to. Why dont you call up the bar and see if Randy actually works there? twitter: @newpowersoul

In Oakland last time out during the soundcheck, a fellow asked to play Habibi and Prince said "come on and play"then a second guy asked to run out and get his guitar outta the car...came back and joined the first dude playing. This was just too fun to believe!! ksdasky Yup, yup! I remember it well. That was me up there in Oakland, time o' my life. I wrote a review of that Soundcheck: http://www.prince.org/msg...1&tid=6705 but if you want a synopsis: 'I also happen to ask Prince if I can play too and he actually nods and says yes! So I walk right up on stage with him, pick up the leopard guitar and strum a note or two. I made like I couldn't get sound out of it so Prince's guitar engineer hands me Prince's personal blue Cloud guitar! I admire it for a moment and strap it on. Mind you, at this time Prince and I are the only people on stage as he was still answering questions. I didn't want to be rude and drown him out so I turned down the volume and broke into a very nervous rendition of Purple Rain. Once Prince recognized the song he stops and looks back at me for a moment and then jokingly addresses the crowd, "ok, he just needs to get this out. I'll wait until he's done". Realizing that I was diverting attention, I stopped and handed the guitar back and got another front row seat to the "interview' I think when he comes to Concord I'll ask him again but this time I'll learn When You Where Mine!! ________________________________________

I did take it up with the bar. I've also written several times that I was promised at the door that Prince would show up and play. That he did not show up is not my complaint. That the bandits who work for him promised me that he would, in order that they be able to take my money, was. I would not have gone in had I not been assured that he would show up. 20 bucks for a DJ ain't worth it. There isn't a single bar in this entire city that charges 20 bucks as a cover... 'cept on New Years Eve, and even then it's only the ritzy ones.

MotherAfrica, I have gone to all of the Cleveland Prince concerts but I did not go to that 1997 afterparty. However, I did hear all about it from a few friends that attended it. I heard that many people were getting very upset and some felt like trouble was going to break out in the crowd when they removed the instruments from the stage.
I did go to the afterparty last year for the Hit-N-Run tour and I was a bit upset that I was not allowed to go upstairs to the dancefloor to dance. I paid my $20 admission fee,and I wanted to dance not drink alcohol all night long. But the clubs security got nasty and started pushing people in the club, and one security guard was yelling at a woman it was a mess. I didn't expect Prince to perform at the afterparty, but I did expect to be able to dance at the club. I tried to get my admission fee refunded and of course the answer was we don't have the money Princes people took it. All I can say to anyone thinking of attending the official afterparty in any city is do NOT expect Prince to perform, show up, or to even be allowed to walk freely or dance in the club or use the restroom. Seriously though if you can spend the $20 and not have any expectations and go with the flow then you may actually find it an enjoyable experience. You just never know what may happen. Formerfan, if some man would have asked me for a sexual favor in exchange for refunding me my money I would have made him a soprano. Sorry to hear that this one man has tarnished your views about Prince. Just think about it this way, Randy will get what is comming to him in the long run. Remember there is such a thing as karma. Send your e-mail to the NPGMC and see if U receive a response. Maybe Randy is an official Paisley Park employee and maybe not. If he is then he may have some splain' to do Lucy.

Unfortunetley I was not at the show in Ohio, but to you that were there and complained about the afterparty, "CHILL" The man(Prince)just got done playing a 2+ hour show to share his latest work along with some old hits for you!!(It has got to be tiring to put that on) I know it sucks when people are mislead , and it is nice to see the artist But regaurdless if he shows up or not its a party!!!, A place where you can keep the funk alive after the show , remenese with others about the show and your good or bad Opinions you might of had with the show. As far as the sign outside of the club gaurenteeing a performance I dought the tour camp put that up. If i am wrong about the sign my bad, but 20 dollars to continue partying with people from the show and a DJ that will have flavor for most people to grove to and keep it rockin late for you, you should be happy with that you got to see Prince and be a part of the 2002 tour!!!
Peace and funk to all RSS22 p.s. become a NPG member if you are trying to save $20( but its cool if i had to pay because its expenceve to put on a tour and i want to see more!)

Hi RSS22, Since I've found it frustrating that so many people are misunderstanding what I'm saying, I've decided to write a personal note to you explaining myself. Sorry for laying thsi on you, but I think what really happened should be known. Anyway, thanks for the input... I certainly agree that an artist, particularly one in his 40s who gives his all time and time again, has every right to rest, a shower, food, peace and happiness. I grant him that. I did not care that he did not show up. Once again, THIS WAS NOT MY COMPLAINT. My complaint is this: The jerks at the door (not bar workers but people working ostensively for Prince.) PROMISED that he would play. This was done, it seems, SPECIFICALLY SO THAT WE WOULD GIVE THEM OUR MONEY and not turn around and go home- on a work night. I, not aware of the culture of the "after-party," believed this promise and decided to risk a groggy day at work the next day so that I could be witness to the up close presence of the P-man himself. The DJ added to this by constantly reminding us that "Prince is on His Way!". Certainly it's fun to party, but I can go out and party any night of the week for 5 bucks, and I'm not gonna' do it on a day when I have to get up at 7:00 a.m. the next morning like the average working stiff, unless something mighty special is going to happen. Why the hell am I going to donate $20 ($40 if you count my wife... 120 if you count the friends that I called up and invited to the bar!) to these liars so that I can waste my time for a broken promise. Mabye 150 people got, excuse my french, f****d over in this same manner and quite a few of them were not happy when they learned that they'd been lied to- including the bar owner. I put my trust in Prince's organization, and when they did not follow through, I was not happy. Had they simply said something like "You know, Prince doesn't usually show up at these things, and, for what it's worth, doesn't play all that often.. this is just a way to hang out with other Prince fans and hear a DJ" and THEN I went in, I would not be complaining today. Of course, the scam artists in his employ would not be making as much money if they were so, GASP, honest. What's more, when I asked for an apology and my money back, I was dicked around, lied to several more times, sexually propositioned, and treated like a nobody. Apparently this type of thing has happened many times. This practice of "Dupe the Newbies" is kinda' like telemarketers selling submerged land to old folks "Oh, gosh, I'm sorry, didn't we tell you? A dam was built there 20 years ago and now its underwater... I'm sorry, you should have known this. It's still nice underwater land though, don'tcha think?" Wouldn't you be pissed in the same circumstance?

SAme exact situation happened last night at Detroits afterparty. They could not have picked a worse club than the ever so pretentious "Envy". To small and stuffy for Prince. The setup would have never worked even if he did show. Anyway, the NPG dj was spinning and Grafitti Bridge and Purple Rain were playing on several tv screens, The place was crowded, recognizable with people from the concert. I wuz told Prince was going to be escorted to the VIP upstairs and got in with the owner and dj that said they would bring me up there also with them. They were reassuring me all night that he was on his way soon. I had my doubts, though Prince has always showed up for after party appearances, last year at "Pure- I met him briefly and said I love you...duh?" and in 98' at St. Andrews Hall-(he didn't perform, but he sat on the stage and bopped his head, danced a bit- Mayte was with him also).
It was funny, how NPG security kept the crowd eagerly guessing while constantly telling people to "move back and clear the area", surrounding the red velvet ropes of the tiny VIP section in the front. Crowds of people gathered around that section and stood there waiting to see Prince arrive for at least 2 hours. Too funny!!! In the meantime I was told he was coming in the backdoor and going directly upstairs VIP. He has been known to go out for a bite to eat after the show in Greektown or Intermezzo's, and depending on his mood and the looks of the crowd and club, he decides if he will enter or not. Who can blame him, after putting on such an Unbelievable performance in Detroit for 3 hours. Though, I thought guests were suppose to get in free with members, thats probably the clubs pocketing NPGMC's money, who knows? Bottom line is u need to c the soundcheck, and I am sooooo upset that I was LATe... yes, very late. MIssed the performance and most of the chatting. I am very upset with myself. I cant seem to be on time for anything, so it was expected, but for PRINCE- NO way... was it worth it to put the fake eyelashes on and get my hair perfect?? ALmost, since Prince did flirt with me once I did arrive. I am still so bummed. I am going to have to drive to CLeveland's soundcheck and see what I missed!!

I also have had my share of disappointing experiences at Prince afterparties. I went to the afterparties a few nights ago in Chicago because the admission was free with my NPGMC membership.
If I had been required to pay $20, I probably would not have gone. I went to an afterparty a couple years ago and I was surprised when I was told it was a private party and the only people allowed in were those who had been given a pass. I was so upset that I was crying. I had spent my time and money and traveled to the show and I wanted to attend the afterparty, too. Something that I have noticed is that fewer people are showing up for these afterparties. I went to an afterparty in 2000 where security guards were yelling and pushing everyone into a confined space in the club. The club was packed to capacity and people could hardly move. Prince showed up and only stayed for a few minutes. About a year later, there was another Prince afterparty at the same club. The crowd in the club was noticeably thinner than it had been in 2000. At the afterparties a few nights ago in Chicago, the clubs were not filled to capacity on either night. There was a lot of room to move around. I think that more and more people are deciding to go to the show but they are skipping the afterparty scene, especially if the show is held on a work night. I guess it's just not worth it to some people to pay $20 to see Prince walk past surrounded by bodyguards.

Yes, this scene sounds so-ooooo familiar to me...! This is exactly what happened at an afterparty I went to a couple of years ago! The party was booked at a terrible dinky club with a tiny VIP section. The club was so crowded that no one could move. Security guards were yelling and pushing people to clear the area, but there was no where to go! We were packed in tightly like sardines and couldn't move
