Mattie Baker's funeral report by Jon Bream

http://www.startribune.co...07428.html
Published Mar 1, 2002
NOTES FROM A MEMORIAL

The late Mattie Baker was remembered as a giving, loving mother, friend and social worker (with the Minneapolis public-school system) who had a "beautiful smile," "a wit about her" and "could communicate with absolutely anyone," according to friends and colleagues who gave eulogies at her funeral last Friday. The most famous of her four children, Prince, was neither visible nor audible at Zion Baptist Church in Minneapolis. Instead, Whitney Houston's recording of "The Greatest Love of All" was played -- twice. (Jon Bream)

Why the hell should you even care? Get you own act together and stop obsessing over famous strangers.

she had been very ill 4 awhile so perhaps prince said his goodbyes in private and didn't want his mother's funeral 2 turn in2 a circus with reporters and deranged fans hanging around.

I've got to agree. Why post a mean-spirited, critical message like that? And by the way, most of the people here don't consider Prince a "stranger". And it is not a crime, nor crazy to be slightly curious if he attended his mother's funeral.

Prince is a mystery... we all seem to love that about him. To be curious is normal. We wish to understand fully what we love...again normal. It is very hard to support someone or something if you don't undersatand it. I commend those who are looking to better understand Prince and his music/purpose providing healthy boundries are respected. There are things that he invites us to explore with him.

Prince invites us into his world through his music. That is how he communicates with us. Sometimes very personally at that. He invites us to his studios. He invites us into deeply personal conversations. However, he does not invite us to his home or the services of his loved ones. Look for the invitation...

I take back my criticism of your goofy comment. Your post in the Chicago review thread is so cool and right on, that it outshines your errant comment here. Kareem Inmycoffee..lol..

If Kelly came up missing and we never heard from her again, it would be too soon! If there was ever a motherfucker who secialized in stupidity and dis-tastefulness, it's plain 2C, this bitch has a PHD. Having lost relatives myself (as I'm sure many of us have) I can appreciate how incredibly difficult and seemingly impossible this situation is to deal with. And, inasmuch as many people come together to griev in traditional settings such as funerals, for others, this is simply not a part of their grieving process. Maybe Prince was at his mother's funeral, but chose an obscure seating arrangement so as not to be disturbed (or create a disturbance (as was suggested). Maybe he chose not to attend at all, again, as part of his own personal manner of grieving? Whatever he did, and however he chose to deal with the situation, it was his decision! Kelly....darling...In closing I'd like to share a little ancient Chinese proverb witcha..."Better is it for a man/woman to be perceived as a damned fool than for them to open their mouth and errase doubt." In other words....baby.....Shut...the fuck...up! Please!...I'll pay you! If this bitche's pussy is as wide as her mouth is, we've got another Bermuda Triangle situation on our hands! Will somebody stick something in this bitches mouth please!! A sock, a shoe, a dick...Just stick something in there please...I'll pay U2! Do we have any bidders? Anybody?!! Alright!....don't make me take this shit to e-bay!

everyone deals with death in a different way. a good friend of mine just lost her best friend to a car wreck, and she was un-able to go to the funeral....some people thought it was rude of her not to go to her friends funeral, but she just couldn't do it. maybe prince feels the same way?

peace

My father died a few years ago. Before he passed, I spent time with him and openly told him that I would not attend his funeral...I love him very much and the last thing I wanted to see was my father dead.

I feel funerals are for those who feel they need to say goodbye...some of us prefer to say goodbye when a loved one is alive...
