The night was all about atmosphere, in fact, from the elegantly dressed audience that included Kevin Garnett, Jimmy Jam, Robyne Robinson, members of the artist formerly known as Prince's band, and the Artist himself, who was reportedly looking on from the wings.



Maxwell hit the stage clad all in white (including a white skullcap), and was backed by a terrific six-piece band (featuring former Mubbla Buggs, Prince, and Paul Westerberg drummer Michael Band) that played a mystical stew of adult-contemporary-new-age-funk that organically drew on the Latin rhythms of their leader's partial homeland, Puerto Rico.
