3rd Paisley Report

Saturday morning's performance was another unforgettable one. Doors opened around 1:30, I got there after 2:00. No security at all even Prince didn’t have security, not that he needed it with only 40 to 50 people in attendance. Prince and the NPG, along with special guest Maceo Parker, had already begun playing before I got there. Prince was looked the best that I've seen him look in awhile. His hair was shorter and more tapered with the top and front left longer and styled. He wore a black suit with a royal blue handkerchief in the top pocket to match his royal blue boots that he let everyone see. Too hot!!!

Now to the truly important stuff, the MUSIC! The song list went something like this (they are not it order):

A few instrumental jams
The Ride
If Only U Knew (this is a Pattie Labelle song)
Cool As The Other Side Of The Pillow
Family Name
An extended version of TRC
The intro to HCUDCMA with Prince replying to the crowds excitement "no ya'll ain't ready for that".

Prince invited Larry to come up on stage by saying "Larry come up here, were gonna sweat out that suit". They played Sing A Simple Song with Larry on the base and Prince joining him on the guitar later during the song.

The highlights of the performance for me were Starfish and Coffee and a full version of Some Times It Snows April with Prince on the piano, the vocals on this were truly amazing. My personal favorite was Strange Relationship. He cut loose on this jam and the crowd was really into it, there may have only been 30 people in the crowd but everybody was jammin. It was crazy funky. It was a long version but I wish he would have played for twice as long, damn it was good. After the song ended Prince announced that it had to be added to the set list for the tour, I suggest y'all bring your dancing shoes when Prince and the NPG visit your city because it is going to be off the chain. People will flip when they hear this song, I wish I could explain the depth of funk that hit, it was sick.

Prince really seemed to be enjoying himself laughing and dancing, stepping into the crowd while playing guitar. There were a lot more vocals on Prince's behalf in this performance. The crowd started thinning out to about 20 people by the end of the performance.

It's obvious that Prince is getting ready to go on the road with this show. All that I have to say is finally a show that will showcase to the rest of the world just how musically talented Prince is. A show with no dancers or props and no "hits". No purple Rain or Raspberry Beret. Not that these songs aren’t good but I think that if I'm tired of hearing them, he has got to be tired of playing them! Besides there is just so much better rarely heard music to pick from that his "fams" would love to hear. Putting all the emphasis on the music and just blowing peoples minds. It's been awhile since that has happened and we all know he is more than capable of putting together a show like this. If this is what he has in store for this tour ya'll better take the next day off of work because your bout to get run over by a funk train and will definitely need a day or two to recover. I sure do.

[I... am... so... jealous! SOTT songs...! -Ben]
