Prince Jams at Jazzmine's

Prince drops in at Jazzmine's, takes the stage

Prince was briefly a pillar of the music community Wednesday night at Jazzmine's.

He arrived with Manuella and body guards in tow for an unexpected jam with Walter Chancellor and Larry Graham. Chancellor has pulled together a band named Conversation Piece.

At first, Prince was playing with the group in a very low-key manner from behind one of the pillars on stage. His guitar could be heard but, the some 30 patrons in the house couldn't tell where the music was coming from.

Eventually, Prince waltzed on stage. He never took center stage. He remained in the background. But it was great, I'm told. Prince was kind of unrecognizable in a white stocking cap get up.

"He stayed until closing," Jazzmine's owner Ken Israel confirmed.

"The only embarrassing moment was when he was on stage. I wanted a better view so I sat down at a table and was approached by one of the body guards and informed this table was reserved," said Israel. "I told them I owed the joint and was forgiven. The fact that he joined the band was truly a tribute to Walter Chancellor."

Let's hope this out-and-about attitude of Prince continues until late 2002. I have a feeling that Prince's biological clock is ticking and the more we see him and Manuella, the presumed Mrs., the better we can monitor when she becomes in the family way.

(She's the presumed Mrs. because I don't know what to call her. I'm wondering whether they are in a binding marriage given that Prince kicked Mayte to the curb with asinine talk about how they didn't need a contract as the framework for their relationship.)

Any day now, I'm expecting Prince to give an interview to People or his buddy Bryant Gumbel about second spouses.
