Patti Smith Lands Compilation
Friday January 25 08:32 PM EST

Nearly thirty years after Patti Smith began recording, Arista Records will issue the double-disc set Land 1975-2002, the first-ever retrospective of the singer/songwriter/poetess, on March 19th.
The first disc features singles and album tracks chosen by fans during Smith's last club tour and via the Internet. Disc Two includes previously unreleased demo and alternate takes, live tracks, poetry and a recording of Prince's "When Doves Cry."

Novelist/journalist/philosopher Susan Sontag will pen the liner notes for the compilation, and the accompanying thirty-six-page booklet features notes, original lyrics, artwork, drawings and previously unavailable photos. Additional previously unavailable material from Smith's career will be featured on her Web site, www.pattismithland.com, which will launch in March.

Around the release, Smith will kick off a national tour with her band, which also features Lenny Kaye, Oliver Ray, Tony Shanahan and Jay Dee Daugherty.
