Tribute CD Review fron UK Times

here is a review of IIWP from The Sunday Times(London). from the first couple of sentences, i am guessing the reviewer was not yet aware of TRC.

SUNDAY JANUARY 06 2002

Pop: New releases: Various Artists: If I Was Prince

Three stars Outstanding, Two stars Good, One star So-so, No star Give it a miss

VARIOUS ARTISTS
If I Was Prince
Rex Records

NEVER mind If I Was Prince; these days most of us rather wish that Prince was Prince — you know, the old funky impossibly talented one. Perhaps the best we can hope for is a tribute album that sends us off to the P section of our CD stacks to play his albums again with a fresh sense of discovery. Well, what do you know — here is one. If I Was Prince features, for the most part, the man’s younger, more obscure and left-field disciples, and demonstrates that Prince, like the Beatles before him (and virtually nobody else) managed the amazing trick of being totally avant-garde and yet selling zillions of records. Contemporary electronica wizards can’t actually make Prince sound any more modern than he did two decades ago; what they can do is highlight particular areas of his brilliance that you may have overlooked. So thank you Broadway Project, Fort Lauderdale, Simian, Misty Dixon and, indeed, Rex Records for shining fresh light on the man’s work. Two stars
