Another Paisley Report

The person sending in the tracklist "review" of last Friday only sent it in to amend a few points to the first report, including a partial tracklist. They are not obligated to give you depth or detail, nor are they obligated to be "excited" by the performance. If they were bored, then that's how the report SHOULD sound. LAWD. So, this too is an amendment.

To set a few things straight:

Peach opened the show with close to a 20 minute (?) intro. The synths gave it more of a techno-driven feel, that worked suprisingly. Even though I like it as it was recorded, filling it out with the synths also took it in a nice direction. It was great, and gave the new keyboard player (bearing a striking resemblance to the mysterious "Phil C" from Graffiti Bridge) a chance to flex out. He's got chops, and only fell out of the pocket a bit when P stopped everyone else from playing. Nice to see someone smile on stage, though, when something isn't musically perfect. He helped add some light-heartedness to the evening (along with Prince's jumping out into the crowd to play, clap and prance about).

A Case of You was also great, also the peak of the evening for me. Another good spot for the new keys player. It looked like the crowd began to murmur like they didn't really recognize this one -- the kind of whispering that goes on when people ask their neighbor, "Is this a new song?" Sheesh.

I didn't recognize Blues in C at first, and the "estate manager" B.S. was kinda lame -- sounded kinda like something he'd be saying about the management of his pop's estate.

The Rainbow Children was good, especially played on the Hohner. Can't quite remember, but I believe he went through the first three or four tracks, amidst much jamming. It's also been a month for me since going through the album -- the track breaks are a blur.

No vox on any of the Rainbow Children material. He played them on the guitar and keys to some extent. A nice solo at one point with his 'one hand on Habibi and one hand on the keys' move. P and the keyboard player were both playing the synth lines, sometimes duelling, sometimes in unison.

We counted 28 peeps at the show, and YES, about a quarter walked out before the end. I WATCHED THEM GO (if it's so important for some of you guys to know).

And YES, the girls that were brought wine are acquaintances of Prince's, and he went up and gave out hugs to them during the performance. So they weren't really excited, but one of them has only recently been able to get back in to The Park, so she did have a look of surprise when Takumi brought out the glasses.
