'Gold' Used in UK Pantomime Act I took my daughter to see the pantomime 'Aladdin' at the Marlowe theatre in Canterbury a couple of days ago, and amongst the original 'pop' songs they cannibalised for the show, they manage to fit in a cover of Prince's "Gold"!!
It sounds worse that it actually was. As a big fan of the man (and not so much of panto) I was mortified when I heard the first few familiar bars, but to be honest it wasn't half bad. It was sung by the genie after Aladdin rubs the lamp, telling him how rich he can be, etc, etc. Its quite faithful to the original - they drop the third verse but have a dance break instead with a short drum solo and even the guitarist in the house band has a stab at the epic guitar solo. So there you go. Have you heard Prince's music being used this way before? Neil | |
