Dutch Review of TRC

Finally I found a review in a Dutch magazine on TRC. I've checked a lot of (music) magazines but they all ignored TRC, even Nieuwe Revu, a magazine that always paid attention to new Prince releases. Too bad, because I believe TRC is his most interesting record since Lovesexy.

But now "0OR", Holland's leading music magazine, has written a small article in the Christmas edition. I have translated it as good as I'm able to...

"Controversy isn't a Prince album title for nothing. After the disputes with record companies he now is conflicted with the flourishing internet communities around his persona. For 100 dollars a year you can join his www.npgmusicclub.com. When you do so, you will receive his CDs and a minimum of three downloadable tracks each month. Any other sites with Prince music will not be tolerated anymore. On this album (TRC) the New Power Generation is gone and, oh yes, he now is a JW. All these themes are spoken of on this concept album, hidden in (biblical) metaphores and allegories. The muse who is inspiring Prince, is the true fan, who is following him unconditionally. That fan has to give up his last name to be solidary with the enslaved black people (Family Name). After that he can enjoy The Everlasting Now, an amalgam of the interracial music by Santana and Sly Stone. On his way up there Prince is, under the influence of drummer John Balckwell, delivering music which is above all sounding jazzy, with some excursions to gospel and musicals. The whole thing displays courage, megalomania and brings the listener some memorable moments. In other words, The Rainbow Children is just another new Prince album..."

It's not really the review that I have hoped for, but at least the serious Dutch music fans now know he has a new album out...

[Thanks for the review and translation! -Ben]
