Is this what Prince meant when he said, "Let's Go Crazy"? Backed by his latest outfit, the jazzy and totally funkified Rainbow Children, his royal former badass is long gone from the '80s synth pop that saw some of his best work. Eclectic, slow-movin' gospel and jazz-rock fusion are Rainbow's main colors, which are the brightest on the James Brown-styled "The Work Pt. 1" and the sticky funk of "1+1+1 is 3." The experiments sometimes work, but the album is mainly weighted down by cryptic religious ramblings that sap the pop life right out of it. Don't expect any musical pot of gold here.
