(Tangential) Possible Family Stone Reunion

Possible Family Stone reunion!

(11/8/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Family Stone, the band once fronted by Sly Stone that turned the pop music world on its ear more than 30 years ago, is discussing a possible reunion. The members of the Family Stone are in New York City, where they'll be honored tonight (November 8) with a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, and bassist Larry Graham and guitarist Freddie Stone (Sly's brother) told LAUNCH that the band might have something to say in the near future.

"Because we're here right now, you could hear something tomorrow," Graham said.

Stone added, "One of the things that we have come to do (is) discuss that very subject, because everyone here is--their chops are still up, you know? And (for) the longest time, it seems like it's been a myth whether or not we're gonna do something together and, as Larry said, we are capable of doing it. Hopefully, before we leave here, we will nail it down, whether we will or not, so we can either put the myth to a rest, or we'll just live on the myth."

It's unknown what, if any, involvement Sly Stone will have if the Family Stone does reunite.

With Graham and Stone were singer-keyboardist Rose Stone (Sly's sister), drummer Greg Errico, trumpet player Cynthia Robinson, and sax player Jerry Martini, making this the first time all six Family Stone members had been together since the band's 1993 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame by George Clinton.
-- Bruce Simon, New York

[Of course LG & Jerry Martini toured w/P... but don't worry, there won't be a flood of news about Family Stone smile -Ben]
