Well I dont think we get that show in Toronto. I checked WNED's schedule and looked up Smiley...all i got were 2 Teletubbies episodes, complete with episode plots, hence the Smiley!

Damn, someone please put it on the Hub

Dirty Mind, yes!
SOTT was made up of alot of Lisa/Wedny collaborations in 86, so even if they arent on it, their influence was heavy. Also a breakup doesnt hurt good music either!

Some of the songs on SOTT were started with W&L, Strange Relationship for example.

Prince's music is very much influenced by the people he's working with. You can hear it and in a way he also admitted it when a few years ago he said he doesn't listen to a lot of music except for what his band members recommend to him. It's been like that in the past with W&L and it never changed.

Unfortunately some fans see this as saying that he's less of an artist for being susceptable to people close to him, when in fact all (great) artists are very much influenced by those factors. How they use certain elements in their art is what matters...how they make it their own instead of simply copying. Working with creative people is what sparks his genius, not working with people like Kirky J.

right. I have to admit, I used to think that saying that Wendy and LIsa influenced Prince's music was taking away from him, but I realized that wasnt true. good point.

There's a reason that the SOTT album is widely regarded by most fans as Prince's best. It is because it was recorded mostly after he dumped the Revolution and did everything himself. The Rev. were a decent touring band, but nothing that great...people romanticize them because they stood onstage with Prince during his "glory days", but they were not that amazing themselves as a unit.

did everything himself? those songs were written under the influence of the revolution musicians...its the senergy that was created when all these talented people were in one room...

prince might have played most of the instruments on his own..but he got the idears, passion, love and pain from his experiences with those people...PERIOD!!

cause face said so!!! wink

"Wendy and Prince: on the Tavis Smily Show on PBS, and you'll see Wendy and Prince playing guitars together and singing a song!! They taped it today... Feb. 12th"

Woooaw. My rumour machine is flowing:

a) Big major company will sign Prince and guarantee substantial marketing backing

b) Prince reunites an all-star band, and Wendy surely is part of it ("Prince & the new Revolution")

fro lol

Well, let's see. Who's in Prince's band: three keyboadists, one bass player, three or four horns and no guitarist except for Prince himself. Now he's appearing on Tavis Smiley's show with Wendy.

Hmmm . . . no guitarist in his band . . you don't suppose?

I don't think The Revolution were particularly great as a band, but denying they had a positive influence on his music is plain ignorant. Their influence, creativety, unconventional harmonies and melodies is what made them great. The band members nor Prince have been the same eversince. Sure there have been hints of his genius in later albums, but he's at his best when surrounded by other creative musicians.

Prince's music is very much influenced by the people he's working with. You can hear it and in a way he also admitted it when a few years ago he said he doesn't listen to a lot of music except for what his band members recommend to him. - Coco, although I am not a Revolution fan, I gotta agree with you. I love the 94/95 years with all my heart, but
Prince in the 80s was much more creative, bold and into experimenting than after the 90s. It seems that Wendy and Lisa didnt let him release substandard stuff then. Even the lyrics were better as a whole. And it´s true that he gets input from band members. With the 95 NPG, he was playing mostly funky stuff, the guys used to play harder. Now his sound is more jazzy, elegant, because of his new band.
