VH1 Docu Has No Prince References? "Say It Loud", the VH-1 documentary on black music in America, seems to have forgotten that Prince even exists. The first episode (Sunday night) I could understand how Prince was omitted as it primarily dealt with racism in America and the music business although P has made quite a few social records. Part 2 (Monday night) focused on artists getting ripped off by record companies. There were many references to "owning masters" but no Prince mentions. How could that be since he has been the artist at the forefront of this movement. Further, they showed TLC on 2 or 3 occasions as successfuly artists which I found quite interesting since they filed bankruptcy due to the record company's skewing of the contract. Part 3 (Tuesday night) was on spirituality and a large segment was devoted to artists who blended spirituality with sexuality (esp. Rev. Al Green and Marvin Gaye). Again, a perfect topic to include discussion about Prince but not a single reference, clip, quote, picture, et al. If a show on these topics doesn't mention our man, how can we ever hope for him to reclaim his rightful place in popular music?
[Interesting, their press releases contained mentions of Prince, that he would be covered. Anyone else catch the series and see any references? -Ed.] | |
