I don't post too often but damm, prince is so over. If he had come out w/ musicology alright. but, purple rain? from a guy who repeatedly said on his last tour, if u have come to get ur purple rain on, ur in the wrong house? I know that it is the anniversary of the movie but, if prince wanted to seriously be seen as a true contempory artist in 2004, playing a greatest hits melody with Beyonce is not the way to do it.
It was a good performance, and not great, Beyonce was all over the place, P was tight considering he usually chokes on tv(insert any leno performance here). But i seriously wanted him to perform something new, at least "everywhere" w/ Beyonce and a choir would have been a good choice in these troubled times...? no one except prince fans have heard rainbow children anyway. Well, I guess if he is lucky a few younguns will pick up his older stuff cuz they havent heard good songs in a while and will b intrigued, but damm, either he should perform new material or retire to the greatest hits act. Havent u ever felt like p has no faith in his new material? everytime he gets on tv, he always falls back to his hits. I remember the party on mtv or vh1? for emancipation, he friggin played purple rain there too! I really love the dude but I have lost faith we will ever see him in mainstream media as nothing but a 80's oldies popstar. And it is a damm shame, cuz he looks every bit as young as he did twenty years ago and can play his ass off too. he is and always will be a guilty pleasure for us who follow the real prince, the one that exists today with current material. I am sure he had little opinion on what was to take place if he wanted to open that show. and that sucks. Cuz it could have been something truly special.

Jarod71,When is your album coming out? Give me a freaking break. He came , he kicked ass, he went home. What are you writing his song list now? Some people will never ever be freaking satisfied. The man has put out almost 25 albums in as many years, What song can he play to make you happy? I have to hear this.

Prince needed to perform by himself. He didn't need Beyonce there and did Beyonce even need him? It was as if she was singing her songs and not Prince's. It was like Prince was Beyonce's back-up singer. Okay, well maybe it was their way to give homage or tribute to, but Beyonce overpowered Prince physically and vocally. I didn't see the chemistry between them and wanted to hear Prince's deep voice added to the music, otherwise, don't understand why didn't they just give the floor to her if it was all about her. Yes, ofcourse she sounded good, but Prince, where is the pride??? Homeboy so-called had a list of some demands, a longer solo should've been on the list!!! Glad to see his performance at any rate though... [This message was edited Sun Feb 8 21:54:24 PST 2004 by Starmist7]

No one song would make him happy. If it was N.E.W.S., this whole thread would be full of complaints about that. If it was musicology, everyone would complain about him not playin somethin funky. And don't let it be somethin from TRC or Rainbow Children--the org would turn into CBS and shut him down faster than Janet's breast poppin out her shirt. What was performed was the logical and proper choice. Would I have loved to see him perform w/out Beyonce? Sure, but she fit nicely, (it wasn't Ashanti) and that's how the Grammys have been workin anyway for a couple of years (see Elton John and Eminem, or Eminem and the Roots). On a personal note, I think it would've been hilarious if P ripped Beyonce's shirt open, exposing her chest with the symbol covering her nipples. That would've set a new TIVO rewind frenzy.
