I'm really hyped about this, especially that he'll be playing the geetar. Woo-hoo! Is it confirmed that they're opening the Grammys? I hope so, because it starts at 9am local time and I'll have trouble with the boss if I get in after 10 smile
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

Sounds great. And I'm sure Grammy.com is very objective and wouldn't dream of hyping any Grammy performances.

Oh well, I still would prefer to see Prince perform by himself, but it will still be fun and I hope he does rock out a bit on the guitar.

It only makes sense that its Beyonce, since she used a couple lines from If I Was Your Girlfriend in one of her tunes. As if it would be Ashanti!! She's too wrapped up with that loser JaRule

I'd rather see him perform with someone like Amel Larrieux,I think she makes better music than Beyonce.

Why do I keep seeing all these posts with people saying that the Grammy performance will put Prince "on top"???

Why would anyone think such a thing? I mean, you're being very naive if you think that one simple Grammy performance would suddenly make Prince all the rave and have people fludding the radio stations with requests and lining up to buy his music. Not gonna happen.

I truly hope the performance will be great. But I just don't understand all of these outrageous expectations by some fans.

It sounds promising. I don't know if the reporter is just trying to hype the Grammys or not, but we ALL know that if Prince straps on Habbibi... thats a good sign for sure.

Did they say "dance moves"??? Should be interesting!!!

But he's strapping on the purple symbol guitar instead. Still ANY guitar in his hands means that this could be a great performance, and especially since he's got his own band playing. An orchestra sounds interesting as well. In fact, I'm starting to like the idea.

Umm.. what in your mind is "the purple symbol guitar" if not Habbibi???

I think 'Habbibi' is the name given to the gold symbol guitar, which was the first one of that type he was seen playing. Like, the Blue Angel is a specific blue cloud guitar, not the type of guitar, I suppose not all blue clouds are Blue Angels since I expect he has several of them as spares for tours, there's no way we could know if it was the original or not...

IMO nothing can make up for that bullshit 1988 Grammy slight to SOTT.

Still good to see them give the man his props.

If anyone has that 1988 Grammys on video hook me up.

I think U2 won best album that year, didn't they? To be fair, 'The Joshua Tree' was their biggest breakthrough album with lots of top hits, whereas SOTT was not Prince's big breakthough album, that was of course Purple Rain, and SOTT didn't have many really big hits apart from the title track.

So personally I don't regard it as a slight, it was tough opposition and they went for someone else, that's all...

- Hmmm...correct me if I am wrong...but as far as I remember ´Habibi´ is the name of a purple symbol guitar that he played on the Machine Gun cover. I remember seeing something like ´Habibi-Prince´s new guitar´ and the pics were of a purple symbol guitar...not gold...

- Unfortunately I have to agree. Although SOTT was probably P´s best album, it wasnt his breakthrough and didnt have as much hits. And the Grammys are all about hits, nothing more

You know SOTT actually had quite a few hits off it. The title track, I could never take the place of your man, If I was ur girlfriend, Housequake, and U got the look!. Not to mention Adore which I don'tthink was ever officially released but still got mad spins on the radio. But you are right it was not his breakthrough album.

I do hope that Beyoncé can get him back where he wants to be.

Why do you think Prince is not where he wants to be? Or do you mean where YOU want him to be?

guitar sun nod
yes Beyonce is one lucky lady to have the chance to perform with Prince. guitar Prince is where he is because of himself. For lack of a better word his music is like magic and is like no other. Today I read this definition of a Magician and it seems to fit Prince perfectly.

"THE MAGICIAN is so powerful because he is not afraid to act. He believes in himself and is willing to put that belief on the line. He also knows what he intends to do and why. He doesn't hesitate because he understands his situation exactly. The Magician can focus with single-minded determination. As long as he remembers the divine source of his power, the Magician remains the perfect conduit for miracles."

and AMEN to this post!! I really like how you say "...his music is like magic and is like no other." TOTALLY!!

Thank U and another description reads:

"The Magician symbolizes creation. A fire is kindled, then fueled, then tempered by a single hand. What appeared to you before as merely thought or idle fancy now dances and breathes, alive at your feet. Here you learn to conduct the elements of intellect, Spirit, Earth, and emotion--tools to bring life and energy to whatever you desire. With the Magician come come passion and focus, mastery over self and circumstance, and the discovery of once untapped resources and abilities with which to transform mundane into the extraordinary. This is power and its right use; this is the true nature of magic."
