When artists make serious money off of other artists compositions it looks as if they can't write enough of their own stuff that is high quality. It looks weak.
I think this would be a better point had "How Come U Don't Call me Anymore?" been the biggest hit she had or even the biggest off that album. "Fallin" and "A Woman's Work" both faired much better, and HCUDCMA actually fell way short of the other two singles. So she is far from "riding off of Prince's hits", and her new album does have a cover on it but the strongest material is stuff she wrote. Did she write "Fallin" and "A Woman's Work" herself? You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Yes she did so get off my girls ass. I don't know what you knuckleheads are talking about. She is the most promising young artist I've seen in years. And by the way I don't even like here version of How Come You Don't Call Me. I think the hip hop beat and the keyboard sound were poor production choices. It actually sounded amateurish. So although it's a great prince song it is not a great version of it. It didn't hit if you recall.

mozfonky said: Prince has said in his 80's interviews that he could not read music and said he had no plans in learning to. Unless he lied then he probably still cannot read. And Alicia is a very talented girl, she's young, give her a break, give her time. Gosh you guys are heartless. You expect her to be up to the level of these guys right off the bat? Prince was likewise ridiculed as not being like smokey,marvin...etc. Alicia has a great future if she keeps here head on straight and by the way, she is technically a better piano player than prince.
i think that alicia keys is quite good and will get better as she gets older. even though everyone is saying that her second album isn't that great, i think that it sounds worlds better than her first and that she will only get better. she obviously loves what she does and uses the music as a way to express herself as opposed to some of her counterparts, who use the music as a backdrop for their great american cocktease. I think she's an overhyped piece of ass. But anyway.

Now, you told me she wrote those songs I will - as objectivally as I can- say that I think she has songwritng qualities, which makes her a better artist than most out there these days. And yes, that is a compliment! Still don't know whether she can write a song like Adore tho'. You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.
