Does anyone reconize what kind of guitar prince is playing? Definitely looks like a Telecaster Deluxe, with the humbucker neck pickup, but the headstock doesn't look Fender-like... Any ideas?

i noticed the humbucker, too. But, I'm not sure if it's a deluxe. Prince threw me a curveball, playing a generic-looking, light-blue Strat. I don't think he's always so discriminating, might be playing what's handy. Ya know?

Sounds like to me that PRINCE may re-sign with warners!??

It may be a smart thing for Prince 2 try 2 work with Warner again. The rumors are flying big time that LA Reid will head up WB records. I'm sure he would be willing 2 work with Prince and let him maintain his master recordings to his new stuff as well as back catalog. It would be very nice 2 see Prince have a major deal like MJ, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Billy Joel, etc. That way, he still owns the masters and WB distributs and promotes the music.

although it might be a challenge for prince to sign with a big label again – moneywise and exposurewise – he will have to come up with a good album first. looking back in prince history, imo, chances were waisted with emancipation and rave. personally, I also prefer prince being much more experimental – for me there seems to be a formula, the less commercial his music the better he sounds.

Me, too. As much as i like to know he's "free" to record any and everything he wants(although i think he was always free-more or less- to do so back in the day)...i miss hearing his new stuff on the radio from time to time.
I still love his old tunes, but hearing only Kiss, LGC, WDC, Purple Rain for the hundredth time on the radio gets old real quick. Once in a long while, i hear something different like Gett Off or Cream but nothing more than that.

America needs a little funk in their stew again. Bring it on P!

It pains me to say this, but for Prince to do any sort of deal with a record company is quite hypocritical. He never limited his criticisms of Warner to specific individuals - he has critized the entire music business (expecially the major labels). To do business with a major record company because the money or rights are what he is looking for at this moment says that he condones the industry's existence in the first place, which contradicts the position he has taken for some time.

I think that if he does make a new deal, he should explain why he thinks it's okay to do so now. Something tells me though, that we won't hear an explanation or any details such as how much of an advance he is getting. We never heard any details about the deals with EMI or Arista and I know for a fact that EMI was left in a position of paying out TONS more money to him than they ever made back from sales. The point is, he either needs to take a stand against the entire industry, or limit his criticism to specific deals that he didn't think treated him fairly.

Hey XNY, You're right about only hearing those certain Prince hits on the radio. I get tired of them too. Unless they're going to play an old 12" version that we haven't heard in a long time or put them in a weekend mixshow. Radio sucks overall these days, anyways.

And you forgot to add "1999","I Wanna Be Your Lover", "I Would Die 4 U", "Raspberry Beret", "Diamonds & Pearls" and very rarely "U Got The Look", Pop Life", "Take Me With U", and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", even though they were all big hits.

And only here in California do I hear "Erotic City"(edited and Unedited) on our stations. The only song in history that I know gets away with the word "fuck" on a commercial station at any time of the day.

It's funny though, that "Let's Go Crazy" (Prince's second biggest hit) used to be played alot back in the 80's, but all through the 90's and up to now, it doesn't get played at all. I guess it's too hard rock for an r&b station, and too r&b for a rock station.

Having lived in or near L.A. and the San Fran bay area, I've found (commercial) stations that periodically play the following songs: Adore,Controversy,Lady Cab Driver, Scandalous, Let's Work, D.M.S.R., and Housequake (sometimes with or without the "Bullshit!" part). Even back when the "SOTT" album was out, we had a local r&b station here in my small hometown of Merced, play "Hot Thing" and "If I Was Your Girlfriend" on a regular basis.

BTW, I went to the 2nd Vegas show this past weekend, and it was thee best. And I loved the hard guitar riffs he did on "U Got The Look". Sounded much better live than the original version. But it did kinda annoy me that everyone wanted to hear "WDC", and they all went crazy when he sang "Kiss" and "Purple Rain".

Up to finally learning about BIDNESS (supply and demand, baby...)

Hey, he's about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame!!! Not only does that make me feel old as dirt (cuz yeah, I love the fro' on For You), but this is a BIG deal.

Had a friend who went downtown (and saw Miss Brown -- holla if ya know) today in LA. On Staples marquee? George Clinton & Parliament...which does explain the "you don't want to miss the 1st 5 minutes" promo from CBS). OMG I'm dyin'
