Prince's Father Dies
The father of pop star Prince has died at his Minnesota home.

John Nelson, 87, was a jazz musician. He performed with the Prince Rogers Trio in the 1950s. The band inspired his son's regal-sounding name.

Nelson left home when Prince was 10, and their rocky relationship is referred to in the singer's semi-autobiographical film Purple Rain.

The pair reconciled as Prince's career began to explode and even collaborated on music.
