Allure Sees Dirty Mind in Gaultier Allure September 2001
pg. 132 Fashion Report Deja Vu Purple Reign It's fall 2001, but Jean Paul Gaultier has just begun to party like it's 1999. The cover of Prince's 1987 album, Dirty Mind, was the apparent inspiration for Gaultier's collection of leather and lace, gater belts, cropped jackets with shoulder pads, and cutouts near the naughty parts. No doubt Gaultier, a master at ruffling a few feathers, is attempting to revive that period when Prince and his posse reigned in rococo-rock ensembles that let men look like women and women look like hussies. We'll see how many Appolonias are left to reprise Purple Rain. But let's hope that the only man wearing a garter belt is the purple-paisley guy himself. Sasha Charnin Morrison [Oh uh yeah, more like 1982(?). Anyone with the magazine care to comment if it's actually wrong there, or it was a typo by the person who sent it in? Thanks. -Ben] | |
