Prince put out his very first boot with The Music Box. Check out all you collections and see if they soundboard recordings. If they do and are not from a live show, it's from Paisley. However, I heard rumors that I'm not repeating who had access to the vault in the 80's and 90's and recorded a lot of the songs when Princey boy was out of town to sell to the desperate public. Interesting how our boots came from Europe where Prince practically lived from 1986-1992.
Prince can only blame himself for his boots getting out of hand. Okay,Warner Brothers can take some blame as well since it was the executives that didn't give a damn about Prince and gave away to friends those 60 original Black Albums were released on CD.My tape copy of the Black Album in that I received in March 1988 came directly from Paisley Park, courtesy of someone that worked with Miles Davis during his stint at PP. Prince knows boots will never die. He can't fight the bootleggers, so he might as well join them and release his own. Unpolished, of course.

YES -- your right, the site reads like its "telling" tht it does not know where the boots are. It is kind of assuming that most fans know where the boots are. Why would a site discuss boots and think they are not promoting the sale of illegal recordings, don't fool yourself they are promoting illegal material. That is just plain wrong. Aren't most boots just crappy audio anyway? Sheeet! What R U smoking??? If I were an artist and you stole recordings from me and then discussed them on a internet site -- I would be more than a little angry. It's illegal, no two ways about it. it's not illegal, it's called freedom of speech. the only way it would be illegal would be if they were dealing them or providing the opportunity to others to deal them That is exactly what I am saying

Can someone save this webpage and email it to Paisley Park/NPGMC. I really think a certain someone should take a look at the comments made here and realize that all he is doing is punishing fans of his music.
I understand that Prince is upset that various people have stolen demos/concerts that he never intended to release but he must realize that rather than dilute the greatness of his 'officially' released work, the bootlegs have only made fans more passionate about his music. The kind of people who buy bootlegs of unreleased material are pretty dedicated fans. There not going to stop buying official albums just because they've got 3 other versions of it. What would happen if he suddenly took offense to prince.org and got this site shut down? Other than this site I have no idea what's happening in the world of Prince. I haven't subscribed to the NPGMC as from what I've heard, its not really value for money (unless you really like religion being shoved down your throat) so if the org was to go, myself and thousands of others would feel totally alienated from Prince and his music. Sure, we'd have all the old albums but Prince wants us to buy the new stuff - something I'd be unwilling to do if I thought the artist in question only cared about $$$. So it boils down to this: As much as these kind of actions by Prince annoy me, I'm not going to stop listening to all my favorite classic Prince albums - but it will make me think twice before I spend money on any new Prince albums. I hope Prince thinks twice next time he decides to try and close down a site which is helping to sustain his fanbase. "Everybody want what they don't got..."

I, along with all of you disagree with the current happenings. Instead of focusing on what is going to happen, because it is out of our control, I'm going to focus on what *I* can do right NOW! That means trying to save the website to disk, while the site still exists!! I'm assuming all you need to do is to make the page "Avalible Offline." Anyone have any tips!?!?
Thanks. | |

While this comes as no surprise to me, (I have come to expect this crap from Prince) it brings no sadness at all.
This site hasn't been updated in over a year and a half. If this happened 3-4 years ago when there were no other sites to get this info - then sure I would be pissed. But this comes at a time when ther are at least 5 other decent sites doing the same thing and some much better than G2P has bene doing it. I don't know of any sites before G2P that did what they did - they seemed to be the first and it is bad that they are leaving, but their time has past - they hav ebeen superceded and obviously the owners knew this since they haven't updated since July 2002. oh well. move on. so here we are once again - it's just Prince being Prince - whatcha gonna do about it ? Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Maybe Paisley's logic is that the site owners/contributors must have a source and copies in their possession in order to review them, rather than the content of the site being illegal.
Prince usually pulls this kind of crap when he's going to release something, tour or promote/renew the Club. In his mind, I think it's that he doesn't want folks running into the unofficial stuff when they all clamor onto the Internet looking for whatever it is he's selling.

Most of you are acting like such babies.Everytime prince does something to protect his work of art, most of you start with the insults.Don't get me wrong, I have at least 50 Prince boots, and I know that this isn't exactly legal. This is a choice that I make. You can't get mad at him for wanting people to stop copying and distributing his music and concerts, ilegally Might I ad.I know that you are going to say that the sight does not sell boots, but how do you think that they know what boots are good and what ones are not? You guessed it They buy and listen to them.Thats like you rating different types of pot, and then getting mad when you get busted.I is illegal.Yes it sucks because now I have to elseware. But atleast I got as many as I did before he closed the door. You can't get mad at him for taking control of his career. And lets face it, anyone including me who has many Prince boots knows where to get them.

Slm4m: Could you please read a little more carefully before you post? Your comments make no sense at all. The bottom line is G2p.org did nothing more than talk about a subject, a collection of objects. The fact that buying or owning those objects might be illegal has nothing do with the legality of just talking about them.
Even if talking about them may theoretically make other poeple want to go out and obtain them illegaly, that does not change the fact that in this country speech is protected by the 1st ammendment. By your logic, talking about pot, any type of drug, stealing... etc. would land you in jail. And your logic that the site owners must be owners of said material is also faulty. Isn't it ironic that P, who for years was at odds with "the industry" for their horrible practices and policies, has now, in effect, joined forces with them in attacking/suing the people who are their best customers and ultimately the ones who are responsible for their financial future?

why exactly is the site shutting down if its not illegal? so prince emails em telling em to shut it down and they do it? surely there must be some illegality?
we dont know all the facts here, while im not necessarily defending what he's done. i personally dont think boots harm him anyway, its pretty much well known that everyone who goes for boots is a hardcore fan and therefore has all the stuff officially released. but how do we know prince doesnt HAVE to do this for his case against warner brothers? for all we know, for his case to stand against them, he has to do this. im completely theorising here so dont bother with the flames cos im just trying to understand this instead of saying "prince you cock" because basically i cant be arsed wasting my time on that shit. so we'll see what happens this year, but people jumping on his back really, i mean, ok he does shit but like with the people posting 100s of times about him being greedy, and re-writing money dont matter 2nite in a "humourous" way in reference to the meet & greets. then it turns out it was promoter hype (along with the whole retiring the hits thing) and prince was giving the money to charity. and all the posts stopped. so i dont see why people waste so much time to bullshit about an artist they supposedly havent liked anything of for 16 years. it says alot more about your life than it does princes. and to end ill repeat, i dont think he was right to shut down the site! but if it is illegal, then its his business and ill wait and see what happens.

Although having the content of illegal bootlegs can be questioned by the 1st Admendment I think the real issue here is in the section 'picture disks'. This section contains pictures that are copyright protected under the DMCA. The problem is that on each HTML page for each picture album the statement "copyright 2002 guide2prince.org" as at the bottom of each page. This implies that the content including the picture is the property of the website owner and not NPG Music Group. This is what violates the DMCA.
