Prince is said to have a new product. The rumor is 18 year old Debora, signed to Paisley Park, and is working with Prince to sign to Warner Brothers records. That's just a rumor, it'd be very interesting to see if it's true...

Some of this may be true... but the part about Prince signing someone to Warner Bros has to be false.

The return of the Paisley Park label would be wonderful. There was some great PP releases. The Family, the Madhouse albums, Jill Jones, Mazarati, the Time, Ingrid Chavez, Tony LeMans, Apollonia 6 made for some good times on that label in my opinion

I think this could work for Prince or against him.

It could be a good way to get his songs and music into the charts in a way palatable to the buying public of today, i.e. pretty scantily-clad girl dancing in formation with a group of male dancers. Old rockers like Prince just don't get into the charts like they used to.

It might be good if Prince came out and really backed it, like made it clear he was doing everything but the vocals. All those groups he created, it wasn't until a lot later that I learnt how much he'd done behind the scenes, at the time he used to keep it quite vague, hence all the pseudonyms. If it was clear he was behind it all, it might make people notice more.

But on the other hand, he could be seen as a svengali-like puppetmaster, a bit creepy, not allowing artists under him any say at all. But that won't matter if the songs are good enough.

All those associated artist, they never really made it THAT big, and the Paisley Park label used to lose money, didn't it?

Prince has stated repeated times that: 1. he's not concerned with making the charts these days (though I believe he'd love it and would like to); and 2) that nowadays he's a "*real* musician" making "*real* music" with "*real* musicians.

And of course there is also his very significant religiousness and piety these days to be factored into the mix. Being a JW is a huge influence on his actions and attitudes. In recent times he's even gone so far as to publically chastise women in his concert audiences for wearing too little clothing.

Considering all the above, why then would he suddenly take a step backwards (in his mind/opinion) careerwise by playing Svengali to a sexed up, scantily clad bimbo type who sings cookiecutter music designed for the MTV crowd, or that will "chart"?

For all anybody knows, Debora - if she exists - might be a 350 lb gospel singer and any album put out by her might be hymns or gospel or something, and not even meant to make the charts or be played on radio & MTV.
