Kevin Smith talks about Rainbow Children Documentary Last night I attended the premiere of the new Kevin Smith movie, "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back", in Austin, Tx.
Kevin was on hand for a Q & A afterward, so I asked him about his invlovement with the whole celebration documentary. Kevin went into great detail about how Prince called him up and asked him to film the "Rainbow Children" discussions. Prince had seen "Dogma", and figured that Kevin was also a "fan of Jesus", so he thought he would be a natural choice to direct this piece. Kevin seemed rather baffled by this, being that he's not a documentarian. Still, Kevin jumped at the chance to work with someone he admired so much. Ultimately, he seemed to have mixed emotions about the whole deal. While he said that Prince was intelligent and likeable, he also expressed frustration with his tendecy to speak in riddles. When it was all said and done, Kevin had no idea what Prince thought of the footage. Kevin stated "...even if he thought it totally blew, it would have been nice to have heard some input. As it is I have no idea if the guy liked it or not". Still, Mr. Smith was rather gracious towards the purple one, repeatedly calling him a "genius". As far as when this documentary will see the light of day, Kevin didn't know any more info, indicating that it was totally in Prince's hands. | |
