Prince urged to guest on Conan O'Brien's Toronto shows

Conan The Comedian is taking his show to Toronto, and the press is abuzz with who the guests should be. The Toronto Sun had this to say about the Fan-site closing, copyright-defending musician.

"- Prince: The purple one has a house here, and it's about time he started doing something for the community."

I would love that as Conan is a great show. I never quite understood why he did Leno's show so much (at least twice that I've seen in recent years). Has he ever done Letterman?

Yes, he performed Dolphin on Letterman back in the mid 90s

He also performed Dinner With Delores on Letterman. He even did a skit with Dave and Paul. No sit down interview though.

Thats interesting...

I have on occasion when traveling myself, watched Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien...

The statement of "has a house here, and it's about time he started doing something for the community." Well, I do recall the Hit-N-Run tour... landed there and oh, "Days of Wild" single cd has a Canada Mix on it. To say the least.. purchasing a house that is for sale...IS putting money into a community... due to the fact that... HE BOUGHT IT. (lol) Hence, it is in CANADA. Now, if purchasing a house... isn't a HUGE investment for a community: then by goodness, as JONI MITCHELL said: "PUT in another parking lot."...

A house ain't cheap and actually just living in the house ain't cheap either and I know the payments aint being thrown in the back yard. I do believe the pmts. are going to the mortgage company that has people workin in it... and the pmts. help feed the families who work for that mortgage company.

So remember this: There is more under the surface of a POND then the easiest vision.. of water... it all comes to one... even in the simplest transactions and/or just visiting another country... TOURISM believe it or not... helps the economy... and it aint up to one individual to keep ONE place alive... IT IS all of us TO KEEP each other alive in our own communities too.

Yeah, I bought a house, so now I have no further responsibility to the community I bought it in. I mean, my taxes are enough, right???

I understand your point, but I believe our human responsibility to our community goes beyond paying for the basic necessities.

"Prince: The purple one has a house here, and it's about time he started doing something for the community."

We (Torontonians) don't take the Toronto Sun seriously, and nobody else should either. People buy it for the Sunshine girls, not the articles! It's not much more than a trashy tabloid.

Don't worry, once it warms up Prince will go door-to-door for the JW.

The Toronto Sun should start "doing something for the Toronto community" by going out of business.

And what does appearing on Conan have to do with contributing to the community?? Good grief.

As a Torontonian, I completely agree with you!! The Sun is a newspaper for people that can't read beyond the 3rd. grade. The Toronto Star is so unabashedly liberal that is sickening, so if you want to read a newspaper in this city, I would recommend the National Post or Globe & Mail. lol

I like the comment about doing something for the community. and I think Prince should go on the show. He could then show how much he knows of Conan the Barbarian. I bet Conan the Comedian can make lots of fun of that.

Prince was supposed to be the only musical guest on LNwCOB in the mid-1990s for an entire week. Of course the thing fell through.

Conan did this recently (within the last year?) with The White Stripes, and it was great. I don't remember if they did an entire week, I think it was only 4 shows, but it still rocked. It would be awesome to see Prince do something like this. Give him a chance to play some old and new stuff on TV. Sort of like what he did on Leno a few years ago, playing 2 nights in a row. I think the first night he did The Work Pt. 1, and the next night was the new jazzy arrangement of Dorothy Parker.

Other than at some Raptors games, Prince is rarely spotted in Toronto. He probably just holes up at home and doesn't venture out because Toronto must be his refuge from work. Otherwise, he might be maintaining a house here for Mani's sake only.

I doubt Conan would even want Prince on for one show anyways, regardless of where the show is taped. Prince is obscure and irrelevant now, and Conan is about marketing performers who want media attention and approval. Prince has proven that he doesn't seek media attention and approval.

If you're sensing that I'm bitter, you're on the money. Prince supposedly lives in this city, but there are no perks for us Torontonians. I flew all the way to LA for The Family Jamm, and despite the fact that he was in LA, he did not make an appearance, not even at the very end. SHAME! If I were Conan, and if Prince chose to appear on my show, my first question for him would be "why did you not go to the Jamm?"

Anyways, The Revolution, The Family, Sheila E, et al were amazing and worth the trip.

I don't think Prince owes anything to Toronto in anyway but it would have been cool if he did appear, perform, and just give Toronto a nice plug on Conan. I thought he should have appeared at the Sars concert last summer. About a month or two ago he was seen at a store called "The Chocolate Messenger" on Bayview Ave not far from his T.O home. I think that was the last Toronto sighting.

Wow, I must be REALLY old, cuz when Conan was a writer (yes for all 4 shows) on "The Simpsons" I swear he had a few references to Prince, or at that time O-+> (is that right -- whatever, it's 330AM).

Then the other night I was watching him and he does the wanna-be Prince yelp from time to time (think DMSR if you can't remember).

I wouldn't think he'd do this show...if he was going to pander to a younger audience I hope he'd pick a better venue.

Saw the White Stripes, loved it. Loved that Clockwork Orange get-up too. So naughty!
