Wedding brings Prince to Calabogie
Rock star attends sister-in law's marriage

The visit by the famously media-shy Prince to the Ottawa Valley was a complete surprise to the staff of Calabogie Peaks resort, where Prince's sister-in-law was celebrating her wedding.}}}

Residents of the Ottawa Valley hamlet of Calabogie couldn't believe their eyes Saturday when oddball rock star Prince swept into town in a limousine for his sister-in-law's wedding.

Daniela Testolini married Michael Dykeman at Dickson Manor at the Calabogie Peaks resort, resort spokeswoman Manon Greer said yesterday.

Prince married the bride's sister, Manuela Testolini of Toronto, a former employee of his recording studio, in Hawaii on New Year's Eve, 2001.

The visit by Prince -- famously media-shy -- was a complete surprise to everyone, Ms. Greer said.

"It was all very hush-hush, down to a point about 10 minutes beforehand. I thought it was a scam actually," she said.

"You get this call saying we've got the artist formerly known as Prince on his way, and I'm going 'Yeah, OK, sure,'" Ms. Greer said.

For seven years, Prince, 45, whose real name is Prince Rogers Nelson, called himself the artist formerly known as Prince because of a fight with his record company. He reverted to the stage name Prince in 2000.

The wedding was attended by about 85 guests, Ms. Greer said. "It was very, very simple; they didn't have a big hoopla."

She said staff were told not to speak to the rock star or take any pictures. "We basically said 'this is the bride's day. ... We don't want to have anything like that going on.'"

Ms. Greer said Prince and Ms. Testolini, 27, wouldn't have made such a point of keeping their arrival secret if they had wanted any publicity.

While Prince and his wife only stayed for the ceremony, many in the wedding party stayed overnight, leaving in a bus yesterday afternoon, said an employee who asked to remain unidentified.

Prince is media-shy. In two decades of stardom, he is known to have given only one print interview and one TV interview, according to The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll.

In September 2002, the London Mirror reported that he was outraged when a fan snapped his picture in a restaurant. "That could have been a guy with a gun," he allegedly screamed at his security team. "What do I employ you for?"

In 2002, Prince and his wife bought a mansion -- for $10 million, according to one unconfirmed report -- in Toronto's Bridle Path neighbourhood. Online reports indicate the couple lives there full-time, and that Prince had his former house in his home town, Minneapolis, demolished.

What about the rest of the story? Did Prince not pull a Bono and hang out with the new Prime Minister of Canada, Paul Martin and state that the new PM was cool and so was Canada. Embarrasing Stuff Bono Vox, made me want to burn my Unforgettable Fire CD. Thank goodness Prince is too cool for shenanigans like that.

It might not help that he forbids any tapings, & notes 2 B taken as he speaks, as it may make things more accurate? whereas they usually have 2 just TRY & remember his words and thats not the best way 2 conduct ANY interview as exact words/actions/messages R quickly 4gotten. I guess I really "broke this down", but these articles written so inaccurately by journalists kind of "tick" me off, as well as the frequency of which he is called "weird" or "oddball" or "symbollina"... He is one of the RARE superstars that U never hear of being on drugs, an alcoholic, a child molester, spending time at prison picnics...etc. He is a good example 2 all, IMHO, in sooo many ways besides his awesome musical/acting talents. He seems 2 KNOW when & who 2 stay away from & 4 how long. Ignore the ones who need 2 diss U, prince! "They" R the ignorant ones, & jealous as well, that U R NOT at "their" level. U know, way LOW!

The Ottawa Citizen needs to get a pocket thesaurus because they called Prince "media-shy" at least THREE times in this article! That is intolerable!! I'm pulling out here from the redundancy.

Also, another clue that this story is a bit bogus:

If this was Mani's sister getting married, then surely, like any other normal sister Mani would b heavily involved, and helping, with the preparations for her sisters wedding, particularly if they were very close!!! I know I was, when my sister got married!!! And also it stated that they only stayed for the ceremony, well surely Mani would have wanted very dearly 2 b at the wedding reception afterwards as it was her sister getting married!! Or I suppose thats one of the prices u pay for marrying the worlds most reclusive and eccentric rock star!! U cant do normal things like the rest of us!!

Also, Prince and Mani would have been part of the main wedding party and would have taken active part in the whole event, i.e. Mani would have been a Maid Of Honour or something!! I wonder if they posed for family pics!!

Also, I wonder if this was a JW wedding!!

At least Mani got to attend the wedding. I thought JWs weren't supposed to attend other religious ceremonies so it's also possible Mani couldn't/wouldn't have been IN the ceremony anyway if her sister asked her to be.

They make it sound like Prince doesnt have a home in Minneapolis anymore. He demolished the old purple one not the current cranberrry colored one.His current pad is sweet with pool tennis courts and windmill from Holland.He loooves dem Hollanders for some reason.Hehehehehe...Toronto newspapers are as bad as Londons...LOL...

Okay, yes the article is filled with inaccuracies. Doesn't mean that the whole thing was "bogus".

Mani and Prince could attend the Wedding, just not participate. Mani could NOT have been the maid of honor, unless it was a JW ceremony. Of course, many JWs bend these rules, but it up to them. Nowhere in the article does it say what Mani's involvement was, just that she and Prince attended. This doesn't invalidate the whole article.

The comment that he "reverted to the stage name Prince" is accurate, in that the article stated that his real name is Prince Rogers Nelson. By only using his first name, he is essentially using a "stage name". It would be the equivelant of me calling myself "Dave" professionally, and not using the rest of my name.


The article also did cite sources, such as the London Mirror and Rolling Stone for the rest of the innaccurate info. While many people are quick to scream "do your research" when an article contains incorrect material, this author actually did. Sure, their sources were inccorect, but that's not the writer's fault. They were writing a brief report about Prince showing up for a local wedding, not his biography. The fact is, Prince's reclusive nature makes it difficult to get clear facts on the man. Hell, how long did it take to get a confirmation that he and Mani actually did get married?? Look, I'mm not saying that the author couldn't have done a better job with their sources, but you have to realise that this is a writer for a local newspaper, and they probably aren't anywhere near as obsessed with Prince as we are. I also don't think that the writer intended any "dissing" of Prince. The (innaccurate) examples were just used to illustrate how media-shy he actually is (which is true, regardless of how factual the examples were).

As for the whole "demolition" of his home, it is obvious that they are referring to his demolition of his old purple house, which his father lived in in his latter years. The author was obviously mistaken on this point, but it is understandable, since Prince did own the house, and the Minneapolis media did make such a big deal out of it. Keep in mind that most of the articles written about P in Minni are done by CJ, and we know just how much she loves to stick to the truth! Any author outside MPLS who tries to get local news about P is probably going to access her articles, and get erroneous info. She reported all sorts of crap about the house demo, as well as started all sorts of rumours that P was "abandoning" Minnesota for Canada.

Yea, and besides that who cares...

If the author wanted any info on Prince all he had to do was type in Prince Rogers Nelson in the News and would have had 24,900 links to choose from. CJ of the Star Tribune is so little. This is what happens when small towns on planet Earth don't follow artist unless they're the current thing on Access Hollywood.

Yeah, I'm so happy I know who I am and don't follow a religion. Because NO RELIGION would stop me from participating in my sister's wedding. That's call mind control for those who believe the word of man and accept it as the word of the Creator of All.
