In today's San Francisco Chronicle, there's a rather nervy quote from Elton John, as reported in an interview with the London Mirror.

Elton's been living in the UK, and evidently, wouldn't have dared live in the states. And if he had lived in the U.S. for the past 30 years? He says, "I'd be dead by now. Or a fruitcake like Michael Jackson or Prince."

Hmm, I would have thought he was a less judgmental person than that...or at least sensitive to being called a fruitcake...

What would it have been like if John had moved to the United States 30 years ago? asks the interviewer. "I'd be dead by now," says John. "Or a fruitcake like Michael Jackson or Prince. At least in Britain we don't have much tolerance for showbiz bull-."
