It would be just like Prince to NOT show up at his own Rock n Roll hall of fame induction ceremony!

plus Prince pretty much ripped Clive with Golden Parachute.

- Could somebody please explain the true Arista/Clive Davis/Rave story? Because judging for the interviews I saw here at P.org with Clive Davis, he seemed very enthusiasmed to promote Rave. And to give Prince complete control over his work, which is a rare thing these days. He seemed to have a deep respect for Prince as an artist. What happened to generate such an angry lyric like Golden Parachute?

The story goes that Clive was happy with RAVE but his boses at Arista were not happy that he gave Prince a 12 million dollar advance and they were trying to push him out of Arista before Prince was signed. I don't know if the 12 million dollar part is true but, I work in corporate America and I know how petty people can be. Prince has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with is statements about the industry.

Once Clive was let go and replaced with L.A. Reid all promotion for RAVE stopped. The story goes that Prince blamed Clive but, now he knows the whole story and the two have made up. Like I said most of my info came from this site and the awful N.Y papers. I don't how much of it is true.

I find it hard to believe that Prince did't know that Clive was on shaky ground at Arista since it was in the New York press.

if prince is going to have a new album on BMG then thats the best news i have heard in ages as it exposes more people to his music. If 2004 is prince's year then that may explain why warner came up with there pathetic joke at the start of the year.Should be a very interesting album when it happens.

- Laura, thanks for the story. I already heard part of it, but you added some details. The song Golden Parachute should have been addressed to Arista or LA Reid or even record companies as a whole. Clive seemed to real love him as an artist. I just dont understand how Prince didnt know the whole story...

Prince is on the verge of striking a deal with BMG, parent co of Clive's new label "J Records"...
The shit is going down and I hear the record is DOPE!
From what I understand there are two songs that we all may have heard but the rest are brand new and Musicology has been remixed by the 'neptunes. Silicon appears on the record as well as a reworking of Extraloveable.
The rest shall go nameless...tee-hee...
Peace.

Not to forget about the hot and steamy duett with Alicia Keys. I also heard about a collab with Norah Jones, called something "When I'm down and out in New Orleans". Finally, the funky dissing of MJ "King without a castle", with a slight reference that once MJ is in prision a new king shall be born...

I think he really isolated himself from the industry. I hope that if he has signed a deal he will keep himself in the loop and yes he should have directed GP at LA Reid. A guy who gets a piece of every artist's publishing that signs with Arista.

Not only that the new head at Arista was LA Reid who is a long time Prince rival.Reid brought Prince in for a meeting at Arista which turned into mini-bedlam. Which,in turn, led Prince to release the greatest FUK U album of all times The Rainbow Children.

The Prince HATERS are running the show at every major label and if prince would release his greatest album now it would not sell 100,000 copies. Then some of you would post saying all of the negative bullshit that has become the norm at P.org.
