Bagged! Deftones singer Chino Moreno wasn't well enough to sing for his fans in California last week, but he was well enough to sing for Tommy Lee.

Deftones had to cancel their home state shows in Sacramento on July 17, L.A. on July 18, and San Diego on July 20 because Chino had a severely strained throat and was ordered by Dr. Sugarman (a favorite ear, noses, and throat doctor among rockers, and now we know why!) to rest his voice (allstar, July 18).

Regardless of the doctor's orders and canceled shows, Chino laid down a vocal track at Tommy's studio for his next Methods of Mayhem album on Thursday (July 19), the same day Chino also attended the Godsmack's DVD party (Miss Truth, July 20) and a day before the Deftones' canceled San Diego show.

The Deftones' publicist, Heidi Ellen Robinson, says, "This is a case of something getting blown way out of proportion. The truth has been so altered that someone should be ashamed."

And speaking of Tommy, his new girlfriend is none other than Prince's ex-wife, dancer Mayte, who was also at the recording session.
