2003's musical moments
By Kathy McCabe

IT'S New Year's Day and you've managed to assume a semi-vertical position and get your eyes back in focus mode.

But with the brain still held hostage by the fumes of the silly season, the last thing you want to do is concentrate.

Those in the music industry suffer this affliction more severely than most - some of them have to play New Year's Eve gigs, after all.

All of which explains why at the end of the year everyone trots out lists.

Best lists, worst lists, quote lists, lists about lists. So here are 10 memorable musical moments from 2003, in no particular order and with no particular relevance to anything.

1. The Prince tour. If you've managed to erase the sight of the pint-sized one in white tights, then you will recall the gigs as one of the most joyous celebrations of music ever to grace our stages. Prince managed to turn the Ent Cent barn into a pumping nightclub party and then did it again at The Basement. Sheer bliss.

That's excellent. As one who was there, I can say it was my favourite moment, musical or non of 2003!

Prince still has it, don't doubt it.

For once I agree with Kathy McCabe. Usually her music articles are greatly inaccurate, and 99% of the time she has no idea of what she is talking about, but there is no mistake on this one. Most of the 2003 "Gigs of the Year" accolades went to The Rolling Stones, with Prince getting an 'honourable mention'. There is no doubt that these concerts were THE concerts of 2003, not just Sydney, but Australia.

The Herald-Sun, Melbournes biggest circulating paper, labelled the Melbourne concerts as the best of 2003!!
