Well, the best way to keep P from screwing it up would be if he did no commentary. P is at his best when he ain't talkin'! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

That's up to Universal. They were the ones who initially distributed SOTT to theaters, and they hold the home video distribution rights as well. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

good point...maybe they forgot about it. I would think there would be more demand for SOTT than for GB, but maybe not.

That's good news. I hope this time they include some decent extras with these two and not mess it up like they did with Purple Rain.

If there is any truth to it, those that laid out a grip for the recent DVD-R bootlegs have to be feeling sick. All of Prince's films deserve t be on DVD. There is som much out there that is so much worse than Graffiti Bridge. UTCM is better than it gets credit for and SOTT and PR are classics.

I am also looking forward 2 these DVD's, but what I really wish Warner would do is release all of Prince's classic 70's & 80's albums as remastered versions. I am sure Purple Rain will get the treatmemt next year, but so should the others up to and including 'Lovesexy'.
Does anyone know anything about this possibly happening? [This message was edited Thu Dec 18 16:19:38 PST 2003 by realfunky]

He cannot release these films himself. They are Warner Bros property Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

good point...maybe they forgot about it. I would think there would be more demand for SOTT than for GB, but maybe not. Again, WB has NO CONTROL over the Sign O The Times film. In 1987 Prince offered it to WB, but they refused to distribute it because of having suffered the effects of the "Cherry" bomb. Prince took it to MCA Universal, who in turn distributed it to theaters. Universal Home Video also distributed the VHS release, and they still retain home video rights. Prince needs to work with Universal to get this film out, but I doubt its high on their list of priorities right now. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

DOROTHYPARK said: There is no doubt that Prince still has TONS of footage in his vault from the Under The Cherry Moon movie. So why not all email NPGMC and ask them if Prince himself could ask another "young & qualified" director, to re-cut the movie into a better end?! I like the movie, and i do like the fun Prince's is making most of the time, but still the movie isn't all that great. If anyone else should than Prince should re-do the movie for a DVD release (just for the fans ofcourse..) that would be just fine! Just the way Bowie would have done it for his fans..
C'mon Prince, show some love! And put up the B&W version, as wellas the Colour version on there too. Now that would be awesome. a man can dream, can he?! love the dvd bonus ideas DOROTHYPARK... and maybe include videos from parade as well -- "girls and boys," "mountains," anotherlover" etc

I know plenty of non-prince fans who love this movie!!! My sister whose 4 years younger than me, and doesn't like Prince at all... would sneak my VHS Copy away from my room and watch it over and over again, she was just a kid...but now she's 21 and still refers to UTCM as her favorite PRINCE MOVIE!!! and doesn't care for 'Purple Rain' or 'Grafitti Bridge'. Plus UTCM has ran on BET a few times and the kids at my work place, because I work with homeless youth...got a kick out of this movie, and thought PRINCE was cool in this movie...so it'll be great to see UTCM and Purple Rain on DVD! AGREE... always viewed UTCM as a lighthearted Superfly-meets-Felini romp... not brilliant... just FUN.
