Adore's Celebration Report

Hey Yall,

I'm back and had the wildest experience EVER!! Do I have a report for you?
Oh YEAH!.....well, 2 reports in fact. This is the overview of the non P
shows, IMHO as always. The Prince stuff will have a report of its' own.

Monday:
The Ball was fun....but the lil kids got all the good stuff. Little P and
little L were just 2 cute 4 words ;>.
I was NOT feeling Amel L. She opened up scattin and it didn't move me. The
fact she was nearly 90 minutes late didn't help. I left. And missed
Prince's jamming which included a great version of Bambi from what I've been
told.....but I'm not bitter :-/.

Tuesday:
Missed FBH sad.. The Time was a treat! AND they gave props to the ladies
that actually were old enough to remember when the songs they played came
out! BayNPG reppin' it with the Time included Gabriella, LaRay, Elicia,
GiGi, Angie and little Emi from Japan!! It woulda been off the bridge if
they had said the San Francisco line, we'da brought the roof down! Guess
it's good enough that Prince came out to play guitar with them.

The other highlight of the Time show was Tori Ruffin. I've seen the brah
play a few times but never felt him like this. He was purely amazing. His
CD is FreakJuice and can be ordered off his site which I cannot give the URL
2 cuz the flyer is still packed. Also, some may not know that he is all
over Cree Summers' Sreet Faerie CD and was part of her first band Subject to
Change.

Wednesday:
Erykah Badu.....from someone that does not own any of her work, she put on a
great show. It is clear that she is truly an artist that will continue to
branch out. From dance to comedy she was a joy to watch.....and did I
mention her man is fine?!? She has great presence and interaction with the
band...the best songs for me were Clever, Tyrone, Bag Lady and Ghetto
Heaven.

Thursday:
Alicia Keys..OMG! She is so AMAZING! Beautiful, talented and only 20 she
flows from classical to street without a pause. She FREAKED How Come U
Don't Call Me and the Fallin vid is playin on BET. Her CD, Songs in A Minor
comes out 6/26 and I will be getting it the first day!! I didn't stay 4
Common cuz 1. I'm not into 'new' HipHop really and 2. like I said, that's
E's man ;>.

Sunday:
2 words: NIKKA COSTA.....that girl is FIERCE!! that girl's BAND is FIERCE!!
One guy Printz, played trumpet, beatboxed and Rapped! Their solos were all
over the place from Led Zepplin to Jackson 5 to Chaka Khan!! Nikka also did
a Prince tune, Anotherloverholeinyohead, which I enjoyed very much, but the
kicker was "Sister" from the Color Purple acapella for the encore...in a
word WOW!

As a hardcore Janis Joplin fan, I have heard the comparisons and see where
they come from. I think it's a great compliment to Nikka and she WAS
channeling Janis that night! Str8 up white girl SOUL! Like she says,
everybody's got their something smile

It sucked that the sound had problems during her set but it didn't stop her
from having the best non Paisley set of the week. Hands downs for me it was
all about Alicia and Nikka. And I think it's trippy that they were the only
ones to play Prince in his house.

All in all a FABU 7 days and this isn't even the Prince stuff! I hope that
they actually release the Kevin Smith docu-film. There was a lot a good
music played and I for one want to see it over and over again.
Getting the chance to talk with Kevin was another non P hightlight for me.
He is down-to-earth and brilliant! Jay & Silent Bob ROCK!!!

Grace,

~Adore
