Q reviews DanceMusicSexRomance I found this on alt.music.prince, posted by Martin Harris (mpharris@FreeNet.co.uk):
In the September 1999 issue of Q magazine, Per Nilsen's book Dancemusicsexromance Prince: The First Decade is given the following review by Paul Elliott: "Forget the 90's, the silly name change and the rubbish music. During the previous decade, Prince made a handful of albums which marked him out as arguably the greatest recording artist of the era. These are the years Per Nilsen expertly documents in Dancemusicsexromance. Musicians, friends and former managers offer invaluable insight into the fun-sized genius's bizarre modus operandi. One of the many amusing anecdotes has Prince meeting Bob Marley in 1979 with a view to recording together, only to incite Marley's 'macho feelings' when greeting him in just a G-string. Prince later snubs Dylan and is snubbed himself when Martin Scorsese declines to direct him in Under The Cherry Moon. Trainspotterish, yet also funny, this will inspire much rummaging around for that old copy of Purple Rain" He gives the book 4 stars out of a possible 5 | |
