Prince Announces Full Tour
Updated 12:21 PDT Fri, Jun 08 2001

Has it already been a whole year since the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince became simply "Prince" again? Time sure flies.
The Purple One is commemorating that anniversary - and his birthday - with another weeklong bash at his Paisley Park digs June 11-17, capped by two concerts at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Once again, the extravaganza has been dubbed "Prince: A Celebration." And once again doors to the famed studios will be thrown open for public tours. Friends including Morris Day & the Time, the Fonky Baldheads, Erykah Badu, Common, Alicia Keys, and Nikka Costa will perform, and also returning are the inevitable afterparties.
What is different about the second annual birthday bash is that it will serve as a kickoff to a full tour - and not those puny little three-gigs-and-out affairs, either.
No, the days of the "Hit and Run" tour appear to be over.
Prince and the New Power Generation will be on the road through the summer, and have arena shows in 28 North American cities so far.
Among the stops are Detroit, Toronto, Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Anchorage, where the tour should wind down August 5.
The diminutive funkster will be supporting his upcoming release, The Rainbow Children, which hasn't got a release date but will be available on Prince's Web site.
And in another new twist on the Prince saga, party-goers should be able to bring the kiddies without fear of them being exposed to a "Darling Nikki" moment.
The Purple One is blue no more, having recently renounced his naughty ways - language included - as a newly minted Jehovah's Witness. Quite a change for the man who introduced the world to ass-less pants.
