That is a good read and yes we have come a long way with all the Nikkies in the world. Thank Prince for being our pioneer. I haven't heard this cover yet by Foo Fighters I'll have to check it out.

"a teachable moment in the school of nasty"

About five years ago, when I was in my early teens and the the boy-band craze, and manufactured pop songs were sweeping the industry, I heard a song that changed my opinion of music. That song was Darling Nikki. It was the raciest, sexiest, and dirtiest song that I'd ever heard. I loved Prince's straight-forward approach to sex; I had never even thought that "masterbating" could even be said in a song! I immediately knew that Prince wasn't the kind of artist a person could overlook, and I knew that I had to have everything he had ever done.

I'm not usually one for Prince covers, only because they end up washed out versions of every other teeny-bop dance act with no nod to the artist who created them. I know not all of his covers have ended up that way, but many have, and it disappoints me that people are going to listen to the song and not even consider hearing the origional version.

I'm happy to say that this is not the case with the Foo Fighters. I have heard the song and I am sooo happy with it! It's everything a Prince fan could want, and everything a Foo fan could want. I know that members of the band feel very strongly about the impact Prince has had on music today, and they have paid homage to him in the best way!

good reading...it's a shame to see how young people today can not identify with Prince.

I went this past weekend with a friend of mine who is a nanny to see John Mayer here in Atlanta. We took 7 10 year old girls to the show (my friend nanny's for three of them). at the end of "Your Body's a Wonderland," John added "Could U B, the Most Beautiful Girl in the world - it's plain 2 see, U're the reason that God made a girl, yes U R..."

Well, i was singing those lyrics, and the girls were like "have you seen him before? how did you know the new words to the song?"

I felt OLD!

Wow, a cool article. Didn't know the Foo Fighters released this as a single. And what a song - I can remember being this 13 year old German kid looking up the meaning of the word "grind"...

And then - as an 16 years old interchange student in the USA - putting a ghettoblaster in my exchange-parents' basketball court - blasting out the song "Head" until my exchange-mother ran out asking me to immediately turn down that filth - and I didn't know what she meant, as they don't teach you in German schools' English lessons what "to give head" means... So I asked her what the lyrics meant - gee, we both turned red...

Hehehe - thought I share this trip down memory lane with you...

"The song never appeared on any hit chart, and you never heard it on the radio or at a school dance..."

The band at my senior prom played it.
