AudioGalaxy coverage of Celebration [Note: posting this because of the picture, and they have a cool message thread on the site after the article... -Editor]

The artist currently known as Prince, in a kind of anniversary of last summer's name-reclaiming celebration has announced that he's throwing a week-long gala event from June 11-17 at Paisley Park studios. Entitled "Prince: A Celebration," the event will feature, alongside an airing of the new NPG album "The Rainbow Children," performances by Erykah Badu, Common, Alicia Keys, Nikka Costa, Fonky Baldheads, and Prince's old cinematic nemeses The Time. Those who hand their 70 bucks over to Ticketmaster will be given a 7-day pass to Paisley Park for these artists' daily performances as well as after-hours parties with musical guests to be announced. Additionally, Prince hopes to film group discussions of "The Rainbow Children" for future use in a documentary. June 15 and 16 will see the celebration moving to St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center for performances by the artist himself. But don't expect any renditions of "Pussy Control" at the Xcel Center: the man who made Tipper Gore go apeshit has recently put profanity behind him, becoming a Jehovah's Witness. In a recent interview with Gotham magazine, the erstwhile "skinny motherf*%er with the high voice" had this to say: "When you use those curse words, you call up all the anger, all the negative times the word has been used before, you bring it toward yourself. Why would you want that?" A God-fearing, G-Rated Prince? This party's gonna be great! Does this mean the artists' once-purple wardrobe will now only feature black and white? Does Prince still have it? Hoping he'll come knocking on your door? Discuss. | |
