And what else is in the teaches of Peaches?...Peaches talks Prince in this month's WIRE mag.

from this Month's WIRE magazine
http://www.thewire.co.uk issue 236 October 2003

INVISIBLE JUKEBOX: PEACHES

(every month we play a musician a series of records which they are asked to identify and comment on - with no prior knowledgeof what they are about to hear. )

(Prince related excerpt:)

PRINCE
"BOB GEORGE"
FROM THE BLACK ALBUM (PAISLEY PARK) 1987

P: I'm not sure what this is.

W: It's Prince

P: It sounds like a Prince attitude, but the voice must be put through some kind of Octave thing or something. Where is this from?

W: The Black Album, which was originally a bootleg.

P: (Studies CD) It's so funny, because I wasn't inspired by him at al at first, but now I really am. Like, "Erotic City" is one of my top 20 favorite songs. I finally got hold of that song and my friend Billy, who's going to be dancing with me in the next couple shows, she was like, "Do you want to come over and listen to 'Erotic City' over and over again?"

I never used to think Prince is a genius, it just filtered through slowly. I have that album Purple Rain, and when I was young I was totally into '1999', I never thought of the production. I never thought of myself as a musician, and I never thought of deconstructing muscic at all.

W: What did you think of yourself as?

P: I don't know. There's no history of music in my family. I didn't think about 'When doves Cry' not having a bassline on it, but now when I hear it I think, fucking hell, this is it. And he can dance in those high heels like nobody's business.

Peaches does indeed rule!!!

if for no other reason, that she sells "merkins" at her concerts! sheer genius!!! wink

...and it is cool that she digs EroticCity as much as she does. i will say it again...this joint as of today, is still ahead of its time. definitly a defining Prince moment!

i know many of you out here dont really dig it (that much)-
so let the debate again begin smile
