i saw cyndi lauper on the "lettman" show the other night. She was doing a motown cover(i dont remember which one). it was pretty embarrasing. i think her new album is motown classics or show tunes or something. she has a really strong and unique voice. i was unprepared to see her as a c-list loung singer.Im sure sheila and co. will give her some Much needed Funk.

peace.

oh..by the way. in response to my response Motown produced many many many classic tunes.in my opinion, that generation was one of the few whose music (as a whole) inspired love, social activism...good vibes etc. Nuff Respect! but cyndi's cover was pitiful. that seems to be the trend now. rod stewart, mandi moore, michael mcdonald all have new releases that are entirely rehashed versions of other artist marterial. Damn. write a song why dontcha? ok. im done.

peace.

Well, I gotta disagree with you there...While I cant speak for the mandy moore or Rod Stewart stuff I can say that I have really enjoyed Michael McDonalds album...While some of the tracks are carbon copies others have been re-arranged and interpeted...

But with Cyndi, the album is collection of songs that she grew up loving...its an homage to her youth...its an interesting group of tracks that are all re-imagined to fit cyndi's powerful voice...

i normally cant stand cover albums but in these two cases i think they work...but those are just my thoughts...

I found out about it on this site after the fact. However, they re-play the show on a local channel at 4pm so I taped it.

It's going to be replayed on Oxygen as well next week:

The Ellen DeGeneres Show - Ep.55
Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11pm/10C
Actress JENNA ELFMAN ("Looney Tunes: Back In Action"). Singer CYNDI LAUPER ("At Last"). BACHELOR CAST-OFF ("The Bachelor"). 1 hr. (TV-G-BurntIn)

Anyway, Cyndi performs "Stay" which is an old song you'll recognize "Stay-ay-ay...just a little bit lo-oh-nger"). Sheila is on timbales and up front... she looks great! I heard on some other show Cyndi was on (Today Show or GMA?) that Sheila worked with Cyndi to arrange "Stay" on the album. On that show Cyndi sang "At Last" with only piano accompaniment... it was an unusual arrangement.

Back to Sheila... she had a long ponytail type thing...was wearing cool, light colored sunglasses, and jeans I think. She looked great and very happy!

At the end, they did a version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" that was very Latin-ish... there was a conga player in addition to Sheila on timbales.

Oh... and I think Kat Dyson was in the band too... playing guitar. I didn't recognize the other band members.

Sheila E. is not on the new Cyndi Lauper CD. If you missed this it will repeat on Friday on Oxygen at 8:00PM Pacific. This is the Directv time. Cable systems might have it on at 11:00PM Pacific.
