several recent releases reference Prince in their titles:

1. Cage has a new DVD out entitled 'The Home Movies' which also includes a bonus CD,'Purple Rain MixCD Vol. 1'

Cage is an MC with a large underground following. the DVD follows him on the Definitive Jux sponsored, Revenge Of The Robots Tour, which Def Jux also released a DVD/CD documenting.
check http://www.hiphopsite.com for the MixCD tracklist and ordering info.

2. Midwest Product has just released their sophmore EP, 'World Series Of Love' on the incredible, Ghostly International label. The electronic trio, as well as the label are both based in Ann Arbor, MI.

MP are all huge Prince fans, even playing an entire tribute concert to to the man, along with other Ghostly labelmates joining in on the fun (they should release that on DVD.)

everything on Ghostly is well worth checking out. those of you into the experimental side of Prince, may definitly want to take a listen to this up and coming label.
check: http://www.ghostly.com or http://www.midwestproduct.com ***where for a limited time you can d/l an exclusive live mp3 of MP & Dykehouse covering "When Doves Cry"***

3. DM & Jemini's album 'Ghetto Pop Life' is available on Lex Records, the hiphop division of legendary Warp Records.
DM is producer, Danger Mouse.

The chorus to "Omega Supreme" has Jemini stating "You can call me the prince of the ghetto."

not just by chance...

Jay-Z is simply following in the steps of so many other artists these days...paying homage to real music via imitating it

4 remember - imitation is the highest form of respect

Jay-Z
Outkast (Andre 3000)
Kylie
Britney Spears (just listen to her new CD and last CD!!)
Beck
Erakah Badu
Meshell
Moby
etc..etc
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Imitation is fine - you here it in every artist. Just check out Prince's songs, you can hear everything from James Brown to Parliament to the Beatles even up to Queen... Sometimes subtle, sometimes very obvious imitations...
