New Issue of Uptown Out Soon

UPTOWN #48 soon out!

UPTOWN #48 goes to print next week and will be out before May 31st. We had originally planned to postpone the issue until June/July to finalize work on the TURN IT UP 2.0 book. However, we made the decision to publish #48 ahead of the book, giving us a chance to add details about the recent Hit N Run tour and some other last-minute information to the book.

Issue #48 of UPTOWN contains no less than seven articles. R U Willin' 2 Do The Work? is a detailed report on the Hit N Run 2001 tour. Sue Ann Carwell is interviewed in a feature called Make It Through The Storm. She did some work with Prince in 1978. In fact, she can be considered one of his very first side projects; Prince wanted to name her Suzy Stone and write songs for her. Meanwhile, We Can Funk is part two of our interview with David Z. Rivkin. All The Ladies Call Me Electric Man looks at the ways in which Prince has constructed roles and identities for women he has worked with. Laughter Is All U Pay is the story behind "Around The World In A Day," as recounted by David Coleman (Lisa's brother), who wrote the song in 1984. The second instalment in our The Lost Is Found series provides information on various Prince projects, including his work with Jana Anderson, Sandra St. Victor, and Me'Shell NdegeOcello. The article I'll Give U Diamonds And Pearls celebrates the 10th year anniversary of Diamonds And Pearls with an in-depth look at the album. For more details on the contents and excerpts from the articles, check out our website.

Work on the TURN IT UP 2.0 script is essentially finished (including proof-reading and editing) and we will only be fine-tuning minor things until the book goes into production, which will be in two weeks. Printing is planned for mid-June, so the book should be out in early July, which is about a month later than first planned. Needless to say, we're sorry for the delay but we think the wait will be worth it.
