Prince inspired Cow Art? It could happen

Udderly Amazing Cow Art Contest
PRNewswire

MINNEAPOLIS, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Can you imagine Gov. Jesse Ventura portrayed as a feather boa-wrapped 2, 000-pound cow (perhaps nicknamed, " Ain' t Got Time to Moo" )?

How about cows honoring Minnesota celebrities Bob Dylan, Judy Garland and Prince -- or even cows inspired by Minnesota legends like the Minnesota Twins, Paul Bunyan or the movie, " Fargo" ? If Kemps offered a year' s supply of free Kemps Ice Cream, could you imagine it? (Yeah, Kemps thought so.)

Minneapolis-based Kemps Ice Cream invites you to enter its " Udderly Amazing Cow Art Contest, " which challenges consumers of all ages to design, color (using pencils, crayons, etc.) and name a cow inspired by a Minnesota movie, product, sports team, landmark, or celebrity -- anything that visually embodies what' s fantastic about the state of Minnesota.

The " Udderly Amazing Cow Art Contest" kicks off Kemps' participation in the City of Minneapolis' June 18-August 10 " A Lot of Art" program. During " A Lot of Art, " 100 Twin Cities teenagers will be hired as Apprentice Artists to create visual and performing arts under big white tents in downtown Minneapolis between the Hennepin Center for the Arts and the Schubert Theatre. The general public is invited to stop by and watch the teenagers work weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Five winners -- judged by a panel of " Udderly Supreme Judges" on artistic ability, wit and the creative use of a Minnesota theme -- will win 12 months of free Kemps Premium Ice Cream. The winning designs will serve as inspiration for Kemps' apprentice artists who will decorate eight-foot-long fiberglass " Udderly Amazing Cow Art" sculptures -- based upon the famous CowParade cows that created a sensation when exhibited in Chicago and other cities. In addition to the cow sculptures, the " A Lot of Art" teens will produce cow murals, cow sidewalk art and other artistic projects inspired by the theme, " Kemps: It' s The Cows."

Coloring contest entries can be downloaded from Kemps' Web site ( http://www.kemps.com ) or received by mail by writing to Kemps Udderly Amazing Cow Art, 2929 University Avenue, S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55414. All " Udderly Amazing Cow Art" entries must be postmarked by June 15, 2001.

The " A Lot of Art" program is presented by Marshall Field' s, the Minneapolis Office of Cultural Affairs and Artspace Projects, with additional support provided by Kemps Ice Cream.
