CitySearch on Prince Celebration Prince plans hometown birthday celebration
by Scott Henkemeyer MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--Enigmatic R&B star Prince plans to celebrate his 43rd birthday--albeit a week late--with a pair of concerts at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. Tickets to the June 15 and 16 shows, dubbed "Prince: A Celebration, The Rainbow Children," go on sale on May 19. The shows will be a scaled-down version of Prince's weeklong 42nd birthday celebration, which was held last year at Paisley Park, his Chanhassen, Minn. recording facility. Last year's event drew fans from all over the world for a series of parties and exhibitions at the studio. R&B diva Macy Gray kicked off the event with a late-night set and Prince closed the week with a nearly 4-hour show at Northrop Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus. Prince hasn't played a hometown arena since a 1997 show at Minneapolis' Target Center. He spent April touring the country for a series of Hit n'Run tour dates, and has been releasing new material on Napster and through his NPG Music Club, which is accessible through his official website. published: 17-May-2001 http://www.livedaily.city.../3100.html " target="_blank"> http://www.livedaily.city.../3100.html | |
