"Outkast. This hip-hop duo is hot, hip and heavily influenced by Prince. But are they recognizable enough to VH1 viewers to honor the year's most prominent inductee?"
Of course they are. It's not like the Vh1 crowd is in their 60's and 70's. People in their 40's and even most 50 somethings know who Outkast is. Andre would be a good choice actually. Nobody has mentioned the two remaining members of TLC. Not that they would be my first choice but they are tight with Prince and aren't too far removed from the scene today. I could see VH1 being down for that. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Meshell Ndegéocello. She doesn't have any songs as jingles, and isn't as commercial as Lenny, but she's much more capable of explaining to the world about Prince's influence, career accomplishments, and talent than Lenny has ever been able to articulate. And much like Prince; she just doesn't give a damn and does what the hell she wants. She is more of a kindred spirit to Prince than Lenny could ever hope to be. But I don't expect everybody here to understand that. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I didn't say that either, but it appears that a speaker has already been chosen from the list of candidates that someone was allowed to exclusively consider.

I say Wendy and Lisa. They were with him when he was hungry and gave his all. They know what the real prince was like.

from MTV's point of view Lenny would probably be the first choice.
Sly hasn't done anything in public since goodness knows when and who knows how his public speaking is now. George can be surprising eloquent in public speaking... that's one I'd like to see, unlike JB who can be downright weird and ramble on awfully... ahh yes if only Miles and Jimi were here today! and therefore I agree with Orlando on his choice of Maceo, Maceo is the Miles of today, not in terms of innovation but in terms of what he represents, ... however if it's down to MTV Maceo doesn't (sadly) represent enough to them... neither does Larry who is not such a good speaker as Maceo and tends to hog the limelight a bit... Stevie, now that makes sense... we should run a little side bet here to see who gets it...

BobGeorge999 said: I know this might come off as arrogant on Prince's part, but I think it would have a lot to say towards the machines of the music industry. I'm suprised someone else didn;t post thos should induct Prince into the hall of fame. It's completely Prince's style. Any arguments of value are welcomed.
Exactly what I was thinking, it would show that he has a sense of humour about himself that I think only his fan(m)-base is aware of. But it risks coming off as insincere as well..him tooting his own horn and all. Ultimately it should come from another person's POV. My vote is for Stevie...he is WELL respected, while not the best speaker, He has so much in common with Prince in terms of artisitic approach, talent, and integrity. Plus if he could really knock a speech out of the park and hit that prince that prince still IS musically relevant, I think it could draw more interest from the populous to what Prince is doing now. My vote is for Sheila...she really knows him, she really loves him and he loves her. She can speak truthfully on the man and will be respected in her own right as an artist who was not made by him, who worked with him, left and is still making it ( as are Wendy and Lisa, but they started with him).
she knew him way back in the day and still loves the brother, now that says something We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I would have to say that either Shelia E or Morris Day and Time should present this once in a lifetime tribute to Price.
