Lenny's speaking voice is so phoney, just like everything else about him!
Would love to see somebody from the old PRINCE camp induct him, like Sheila E., Morris Day and Jerome Benton, Jam and Lewis, or...

The perfect presenter would have been Miles Davis. Its a shame that moment wasn't able to happen.

YES I agree, that's why I call for Maceo Parker to step up 4 this. I think Prince would prefer a close personal friend rather than a big name in the industry...

Also, Prince should have received this a very long time ago. Forget the 25yr rule...

Prince deserved to be known as the only exception to this rule.

co-sign..could not agree more...

I'm still sticking to my guns about my choices: Outkast, Beck, or Lenny Kravitz. I'd be happy if any one of them get to induct our hero.

I second that...Lenny's speaking voice (singing voice) is phoney. Man, Lenny is the worst lyrcist in top 40 music (and that is Terrible). He's like goddamn steve miller, & anytime u hear the first line you know what he;s gonna rhyme his second line with. LOve...above, Fly...sky, high.
yuck, dude is weak.

I think Prince would prefer someone like Maceo. Due to the fact they play together (from time to time). Maceo has played with the funk great (James, George), and he is also a independent records activist...

I think the choice Prince himself would be most satisfied with would be Sly Stone (with James Brown in a close second place). Old P has referred to Sly Stone on numerous occasions as one of his main sources of inspiration and one of the artists he respects the most - so it would be nice to see the smile on Prince´s face if Sly does it.

By the way, I think it´s amazing that they chose Prince before Black Sabbath. Since the hall of fame mostly seems to focus on how influential the artists have been I would have picked Sabbath any day. Modern rock music wouldn´t have looked the way it does without them, wheras Prince really hasn´t been that much of an influence (probably due to his highly personal and too-hard-to-copy musical style). That doesn´t mean I like Sabbath better than Prince, I don´t, but Sabbath have definitely been more influential.

Hmmm... I don't know. I wouldn't discount how much influence Prince has had over modern R&B and so-called "neo soul".

oops!

Prince has by far more direct influence in music than any other nominee here; that is he's writen, produced and collaborated with other artists.

Anyway, he should win hands down on talent alone!!!

It would be nice to actually be able to understand the person inducting Prince. I don't want to be reading subtitles.

So I guess Ozzy shouldn't be the one, either? biggrin

Well, the list of those qualified is short:

Larry Graham
Sly Stone
George Clinton
James Brown
Stevie Wonder

Thats it - unless Hendrix or Miles come down from heaven for the special occasion

Why the fuck is everybody so stuck on Lenny & OutKast inducting him? whofarted Prince deserves to have someone w/ true & deep respect to induct him, a legend for a legend if you will - OutKast, Lenny & Beck can't even fit the bill collectively (furthermore, they'll probably go SUPER trendy & have that damn Alicia Keys do it ill )... NEXT!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Let Cornell West or Tavis Smiley induct him.It doesn't have to be a musical person. It should be soeone very passionate and articulate.Saul Williams could be a good choice or Miachael Franti or Gil Scot Heron.Wynton Marsalis is a brilliant musical speaker, but he may not want to endorse Prince becaus ehe's secular to the very holy "true jazz".

now, ya know that was my first thought... and larry would get out that "good book"and start lecturing... whew... it could go on for hours! Dang, I sure hope not!! Please, please don't choose Larry!

If he wants someone good, think of folks like Stevie Wonder, Ms. Mitchell or Maceo (and don't get one of his girls up there like they did with Nona Gay on the Black Music Awards.)

Whether you like him or not, Lenny is a logical choice:

1) He & P are friends

2) VH1 loves the shit outta him

3) He's in the public eye due to his rumoured romance with Nicole Kidman

4) He's always gone out of his way to cite Prince as a huge influence on him

I'm not saying these are great artistic reasons VH1 should use him, just that it makes sense from a programmer's viewpoint.

I like the idea of Dylan or Bowie. For another option, how about Mick Jagger (another admirer of Prince)?

Lenny sucks, on the rave dvd his guitar solos are second rate and he sings flat as a dying cat.(notice my rhyme scheme very similar 2 lennys). hes sooo over-rated, there is no obvious person to do it. he has no connection 2 any 1 artist like
bowie has 2 iggy- collaborators
britney and christina has 2 madonna- c and b rip m off
janet has 2 michael- guess

This is terrific news. I am so happy for Prince. I hope someone like Dylan or Santana induct him. I would like to see someone do it that has longevity and integrity. I like Kravitz a lot, but I don't want him to do it. Prince deserves one of the best to induct him and IMO that's either Dylan, Springsteen or Santana. The question is...will he show up??
