NEW YORK (ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) - Prominent entertainment attorney, L. Londell McMillan, whose famous clientele includes Prince, Stevie Wonder, D'Angelo, Wesley Snipes and Spike Lee, will accept the Haywood W. Burns "Lawyer of the Year" Award from the Metropolitan Black Bar Association Today, May 10th. The MBBA's theme, which is "Safeguarding civil rights and ensuring economic justice in the new millennium", is that which Mr. McMillan stands for among his peers within the entertainment industry. With his New York based firm L. Londell McMillan PC, the 34-year-old legal eagle from Brooklyn has made a name for himself as
both a civil rights advocate and an entrepreneur. He's well known for protecting artist's rights and copyrights while also aligning his primarily African American clientele with breakthrough business deals in the international pop culture.

Recently, L. Londell McMillan began representing the estates of Sammy Davis, Jr. and Christopher C. Wallace (aka the Notorious B.I.G.) For these clients, he will be settling several outstanding legal issues while helping establish philanthropic organizations for the families. Mr. McMillan gained much notoriety for fearlessly emancipating the music icon Prince from his contract from Warner Brothers Records, the contract that caused Prince to change his name to a symbol and wear the word "slave" on his face. He's also won several copyright infringement cases on behalf of artists such as Prince, comedian Julie Brown, and various songwriters and music producers (including those suing such entities as Sony Records). Among his more
entrepreneurial moves, McMillan is brokering multi-media corporate deals and serving as executive producer of films and soundtracks including the "Bamboozled" soundtrack for which he closed the deal between Spike Lee and Motown while scoring artists Prince, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu and Chuck D for the record.

L. Londell McMillan began his career at the corporate firm LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae, LLP and then went to Gold, Farrell and Marks before starting his own firm. He is a graduate of Cornell University and NYU School of Law.

The MBBA Annual Awards Dinner Dance takes place at the Brooklyn Marriot, 333 Adams Street in Brooklyn. Deborah Wright is the night's keynote speaker and Mr. McMillan will be joined by Jurist of the Year Award recipient Justice Leland DeGrasse, Trailblazer Award recipient Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Member of the Year Anne Williams-Isom.
