Prince And The New Power Generation will play July 6 at Placedes Arts, a venue normally reserved for performers on the high end of the cultural spectrum.

Prince, who has reverted to his original stage name after having dropped "the symbol" and "the artist", once had Miles Davis join him onstage and has had many jazz artists interpret his work.

Johanne Bougie, the program coordinator for the festival, said she has been trying to land Prince for the festival for some time but his schedule had never allowed it.

This year's festival conveniently coincided with Prince's tour to promote his upcoming album entitled "The Rainbow Children".

"I was like...Oh My God!!!! He's coming to the festival!!. I was very proud of this" said Bougie. "It's All a matter of circumstances."
