Prince Packs In The Hits At L.A.'s Palladium
May 7, 2001, 1:40 pm PT

When one has more hits than Cypress Hill's bong, the concept of a medley really goes a long way. Such was the case with Prince's last-minute show Friday (May 4) night at the Palladium in Los Angeles.

The purple one kicked off his three-hour set around 10 p.m. with "Uptown," "Controversy," the Family's "Mutiny," a new song titled "The Work, Part 1," "Cream," and "Little Red Corvette," performing some of these in medley fashion. He then brought the medley back toward the close of the show for a barrage of classic Prince that included "Raspberry Beret," "Let's Go Crazy," "Darling Nikki," and, of course, "Purple Rain." The encore boasted "You Got the Look," "Kiss," and "Get Off."

Between medleys though, the sold-out crowd was greeted to a bit of musical meandering by Prince and the New Power Generation for about an hour that brought the set down. And, while, it was nice to get a taste of so many hits toward the end, it left the audience yearning for their favorites to be played in their entirety.

In attendance for the $85-ticket show were Rob Zombie and his wife, Nicolas Cage and his girlfriend Lisa Marie Presley, Magic Johnson, Wesley Snipes, Tobey Maguire, Eddie Murphy and his wife, and Clueless' Brittany Murphy.
